Testing Starting Soon

All of the towers were supposed to be built by the end of July. I tried to get an update from the 911 Center to see if they were on schedule. No response yet. I'll post if I learn anything.

Still no update from 911, but the testing should be starting soon. Is there enough info from the FCC license filings to set up a favorites list for this new system? How will we know when testing becomes active?

Received an update today from the consultant overseeing the project:
"The first 7 towers are up and being inspected this week. A bid to build one more tower, add steel to one more tower and collocate on 4 more (shelter, propane tank and generator) is out on the street now. This work should be completed by early October. Installation of the radio and microwave equipment is ramping up and installation of the mobiles and base stations has been underway for some time now. A public update is in the process of being scheduled."

So it looks like they're at least 2 months behind schedule. No testing for awhile.

New digital frequencies

I heard that the city of Erie PD was going to encrypt their frequencies and you won’t be able to follow them anymore.

Where did you hear this? It was discussed at the last public meeting many months ago, but nothing was decided at that time for any agency.

New frequencies

From my son who is friends with a higher ranked officer. He told him that they plan on scrambling their frequencies.

That won't make many people happy, especially the TV news organizations. And, the public should have access to what the police are doing daily.

Just passed thru the Albion area. Saw a tower by Northwestern High School that I don't remember from before. Looked like one of the new system towers.

Also, how will we know when testing begins? Should be in early October at least. Is there anyone on this forum who is monitoring the new frequencies to check for activity?

scnrfrq,

Easy assuming you are in range of the TX. Put the new trs freq's in a conventional scan list, minus the data channel of course or lock it out if it rotates. keep it in scan with your regulars.

So what would I hear on the conventional freqs? Just static to show it's active?

If you have a digital radio and the communications are clear P25 you should hear test counts, long tones, open carriers with no voice initially. You should be able to see the talkgroup and possibly other info depending on your digital radio.

On an analog radio, just digital noise.

All I have so far is the list of many frequencies that were licensed. How do I know which ones to enter into my BCD436 to hear the system?

Thanks for the info. Can you explain how you have the locations divided up? The license info I have shows towers at Harborcreek, Waterford, Union City, Fairview, and Springfield. Is that still correct? How does that correspond to how you have the frequencies listed?

Go back and look in the license information you posted. The locations are in it!

I just searched the FCC database for all the licenses for this system. Found 5 from 2016 to this August. I'm now putting together a database of all frequencies per location. I'll make this Excel spreadsheet avaialble to anyone who wants a copy.

August does seem pretty late to be filing for frequencies, when you plan to test in October.

I had a frequency list made in Dec 2016.
According to the BS that was released;
"The entire project remains on target for installation and testing by January 2018, with users set to be transitioned to the new system in March 2018."

The last public meeting was June, 2017. They were supposed to have another one this spring. They are still building towers into early October. This is way behind schedule, with no updates in the news at all.

Why bother testing in the fall when all the leaves are off the trees? They may as well wait untill late spring to test.

That was the original plan for last spring. Looks like they were way behind on towers, as they are still building some now. Guess they have no choice but to test now, since completion is the end of the year.
