These specific keys are already available on "certain parts' of the internet...

If you know that for a fact, and can prove it, then you have an ethical obligation to make the appropriate law enforcement agencies aware. Particularly now that you publicly advertised that fact.

Now can we please get back to facts and findings of NYPD's transition?

I can't believe they have that kind of budget, I could understand the tac unit being encrypt but not the precincts. Very disappointed!!
Budget has nothing to do with it as just about EVERY NEW RADIO sold has built in ENCRYPTION for free if you want better ENCRYPTION there are different levels you can buy.

Back on topic, no updates as of this morning. I am beginning to question whether NYPD will make its self-imposed deadline of December 31st though.

ALL horses are alive and well on this subject, for the news media community, and the hobbyist community, and remains an important subject to those who make a living from unencrypted LE radio, and those who made a substantial investment in radio equipment. it may be a dead issue to SOME on here, but not to all.... it was clarifed that discussion of Encryption is allowed on these posts, as per RR Rules. Thank you.

They are replacing infrastructure and subscribers, as well as deploying AES-256 encryption, which is not free and not cheap. So yes, budget is a huge factor in all of this. I'm not sure why you're chiming in with a comment that makes absolutely no sense.

There are some who are going to try to find a glimmer of hope in the press conference/press release. Save yourself the heartache. This project is full steam ahead and barring some utter failure of the technology, it's here to stay. I won't proclaim that the PD have no interest in actually providing access to the press or anyone else, but...look up the term "lip service".

This is from a news stringer on Instagram.... He says NYPD is going to make an announcement this morning at 10:00 a.m. about radio encryption

And the likes who follow and make bank off streaming live ranting at law enforcement chasing calls also probably made a case for its use. Imagine a felon streaming live with nothing positive to say taunting law enforcement chasing calls while getting live donations In ridiculous amounts. There was live feeds on social media in NYC time to time doing this as well as other cities.

People forget also they had issues with officers using baofengs or other personal models on job at one point some I recall posted by listeners as pranks toward other officers and such and don't forget the rogue transmissions from public.

Same reason Chicago is going same way as LAPD and LASO is inevitably.

You can only beat the dead horse so much. There is sand if you need it.

First, off...good.

Secondly, despite the obvious lip service and PR strategies, we did at least get an answer that the December 31st self-imposed deadline is out the window. Chief Beltran clarified it's now 12-18 months until Citywide completion.

So is the long term intention to move back to the original frequencies (with the obvious new NAC and P25E) or are the Patrolborough frequencies the new permanent home?
