NYPD is going encrypted ?? Lol
These specific keys are already available on "certain parts' of the internet...
Budget has nothing to do with it as just about EVERY NEW RADIO sold has built in ENCRYPTION for free if you want better ENCRYPTION there are different levels you can buy.I can't believe they have that kind of budget, I could understand the tac unit being encrypt but not the precincts. Very disappointed!!
ALL horses are alive and well on this subject, for the news media community, and the hobbyist community, and remains an important subject to those who make a living from unencrypted LE radio, and those who made a substantial investment in radio equipment. it may be a dead issue to SOME on here, but not to all.... it was clarifed that discussion of Encryption is allowed on these posts, as per RR Rules. Thank you.Re: The encryption griping, complaining, and debating...
Back on topic, no updates as of this morning...
This is from a news stringer on Instagram.... He says NYPD is going to make an announcement this morning at 10:00 a.m. about radio encryption

They are replacing infrastructure and subscribers, as well as deploying AES-256 encryption, which is not free and not cheap. So yes, budget is a huge factor in all of this. I'm not sure why you're chiming in with a comment that makes absolutely no sense.Budget has nothing to do with it as just about EVERY NEW RADIO sold has built in ENCRYPTION for free if you want better ENCRYPTION there are different levels you can buy.
Just don't Google it on your work computer. There are some who are going to try to find a glimmer of hope in the press conference/press release. Save yourself the heartache. This project is full steam ahead and barring some utter failure of the technology, it's here to stay. I won't proclaim that the PD have no interest in actually providing access to the press or anyone else, but...look up the term "lip service".

Who do we thank, lil brother?😂Patrol Borough Manhattan 4 and 5 have been submitted to the database. P25 Encrypted, of course. And that's not gonna change.
So is the long term intention to move back to the original frequencies (with the obvious new NAC and P25E) or are the Patrolborough frequencies the new permanent home?First, off...good.
Secondly, despite the obvious lip service and PR strategies, we did at least get an answer that the December 31st self-imposed deadline is out the window. Chief Beltran clarified it's now 12-18 months until Citywide completion.
