I'm in Tampa. Specifically Temple Terrace which is 100% encrypted. I just bought my first scanner a couple of weeks ago (BCD 396T) so I am still trying to figure everything out. Right now I listen to Hillsborough County PD but I am picking up quite a few frequencies which I can't figure out. For some reason I can't seem to pick up the fire department even though I am using RR and Arc for programming. Eventually I would like to get a license so I can go mobile.
Technically speaking, there is no Hillsborough County Police. It would be the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office.

Anyway, I live in Tampa as well...Gibsonton, and I dispatch for HCSO. What do you need help with? I can help you get the 396 programmed since I have mine all set. Keep in mind, the system is broken down into East and West. From Temple Terrace you may be able to pick up both, but from my location in Gibsonton, I can only pick up East until I get closer to Tampa.

My name is Chuck. I live in southwest Citrus County. I monitor Citrus Co. SO/Fire/Ems, Hernando Co. Fire and Sumter Co. Fire. I also listen to Mil. air and Civil air. I have a BC780, BC796, BC296 and a Pro97. I live in a condo, so no outdoor antennas, but I'm working on that issue.

I monitor any civil and milair I can get from here and the sheriff's office. Just moved from the westside of Jax and I miss the milair from Cecil and NAS Jax.

Gonna try hangin an antenna from my new vaulted ceilings...yahoo :D see what I get.

I have been a licensed amateur radio operator for almost 22 years now and a scanner listner for the same length of time. I'm currently located on the east central part of Brevard county (near Kennedy Space Center). I listen mainly to central county sheriff, fire and police agencies. I do enjoy picking up on the activity around the space center and patrick afb.

Lucky! I guess it pays to be the BMOC when it comes to encryption!

Anyways.

I live in Jacksonville and listen to JFRD, St. Johns County Fire Rescue, Clay County Fire Rescue and (when I'm driving around) Bradford County Fire / EMS and Alachua County Fire Rescue.

yep... ;-) the best part is that its 100% legit.. ill tell ya how i did it...

ready??

learn about trunking/rf/motorola/etc

prepare a resume, go apply, become a system tech, get issued radio ;)

honestly, when i first started it was exciting to listen to everything on the system, but after awhile it gets old listening to 10-50's, signal 9's and "HQ Clear for 10-84?". Now WSMOORE can attest that about the only time my ID pops up on the system is when im working on something..

The downside to using this method is that typically on my off time, i really dont want much to do with radio. It sometimes also gets me frustrated with people that went to "scanner university" and like to tell me how to do my job better because they read something on some forum somewhere....

I'm in Daytona Beach, and from time to time I listen to pretty much anything that can be heard. I like the challenge of figuring out business users, or new trunk ID's on systems as well as the public safety stuff.
