Hearing plows being dispatched or directed on TG 485. Sounds like County based on the streets given.

Pro 96

Greetings,

I'm still trying to figure out how to get my Pro-96 and Pro-2096 to hear the Sedgwick County system. When frozen on a single channel, it will hear the digital transmissions just fine. The control channel(s) come in very strong. I've tried every 3600 & 9600 Baud table setting in Win96 (v01.74) but none of them seem to do the trick.

I have noticed, however, there seems to be two active control channels in the bank with all the SG frequencies. One appears to be 3600 and the other 9600. I haven't seen anything on here about that, but I assume they are still running an analog system along side the digital system while the transition occurs. Is my assumption correct or am I nuts? If that is indeed the case, what in the world does a Pro-96/2096 (or any other scanner for that matter) do with two active control channels in the same bank?

Anyway, I'll keep reading and plugging away. If anyone comes up with anything related to the Pro-96/2096, I'd sure like to know. Also, if someone can confirm my assumption on the dual control channels, that would be kind.

Happy listening to all...

Spent some time in NW Andover yesterday, and had the best luck picking up the new SG system that I've ever had. It was consistent, strong and completely readable in Andover and on K96 back to I135. But once you get north of K254, it starts breaking up and disappears quickly. We were at Park City just as a chase kicked up at MM14; I heard something about light traffic and 120mph, then nothing. Learned more about the chase on Newton PD VHF than 800. BTW they spiked the tires and got it stopped just north of Newton on K15.

There is a tower at 3200 e 45th north and one at 6555 w 151st north. I know a guy who lives around 3100 s meridian and says he gets nothing. I think he is going to try a yagi this week.

You can be looking at the 45th St tower from I135 a half mile away and signals will be breaking up and unreadable. It just doesn't make any sense to me. Oh and I think you mean N 151st St West.

Yes I did. Thanks. It does not make sense why you cannot hear anything.

I was wondering if any good scanner buddy could help me out. I am in the hospital at St Joseph in Wichita with a collapsed lung and my brother bought me a new Uniden 396xt scanner as I love to listen but hadn't made the change yet to digital. I am so hoping that another person with a 396xt would help me out and swing by St Joseph and let me clone their scanner. I have a laptop here with internet access and just want to listen to the police, KHP, and Sheriff. Please call me if you could help at 650 5216. I would greately appreciate any help. - Clay

Don't wait--go to this website and download this file for your scanner. It's 10.5mb

Downloads

ARC-XT BASIC V 1.9 for Uniden BCD396XT/BC346XT/BCD996XT/BCT15X

It has a free trial for a few uses. Use the radio reference website to get the new digital frequencies and talkgroups you want. You'll be up and running in a short time.

Here's a little update in my findings.

I apparently live in the matrix. My 396 and 996s still wont work anywhere in the house (or mile area around 13th/Ridge) hardly at all. (both stock and update rubber ducky antenna)

I've almost finished my tower for my directional antenna. I tested the antenna the other day by mounting it on a camera tripod and sticking it up on the roof. What a difference! I get almost perfect audio with very few errors. I pointed it east towards downtown and got the best results.

I picked up a 536 yesterday and set it on my desk (in the basement) and started to tinker with it. It was effortlessly decoding the P25 system IN THE BASEMENT! Deff a huge improvement from the 396/996s. That being said, I'll prob sell my 396 and hope the Siren app takes it's place as a handheld while I'm not at home.

Anyone else in the Wichita area using an external antenna? I'm curious to hear about someone else's set up.
