Question,
Why would Glendale be active on the Pasadena tower...it's located by Colorado and the 210 freeway...I can't imagine Glendale units would be able to hit that low tower.

Any insight?

It's mainly the ability to roam between different cells/systems plus there is a lot off cross coverage for redundancy. I'm able to receive the Pasadena system throughout Glendale and most of Burbank, and well into Orange County. Pasadena's system is on a couple towers, one being above the Rose Bowl at Mirador - not 210/Colorado.

Most of the Glendale police and fire radios have been programmed with P-25 in them, but their talkgroups are not yet allowed on the Glendale P-25 cell,

Just curious why Glendale PD & Verdugo are not allowed yet ... Burbank was simulcasting several TGs on their new system in the weeks leading up to their switch-over presumably to make sure everything was working properly. Why is Glendale not doing this in the weeks also? Thanks

Santa Monica joins ICIS JPA

City of Santa Monica last week voted to join the ICIS joint powers authority.

They also accepted Federal Homeland Security grant for $3.3mil to build out the trunked radio system and awarded contract to Motorola.

The Santa Monica system will consist of 3 sites - 100 Wilshire Blvd, Mount Olivette Reservoir(in Brentwood) and at city's public safety facility.

All city agencies - police, fire and public works will migrate to the system.

During the West Covina incident I heard Glendale on their old smartzone system using the old TG AND Burbank's p25 site with the new TG, 2093 for dispatch, simulcasting.

It's not the "old" talkgroup vs the "new" talkgroup - it's the SAME talkgroup. The difference is in SCANNERS ONLY. A couple decades ago a scanner manufacturer decided to multiply the actual talkgroup number by 16. With P-25 systems, the scanner manufacturers FINALLY have stopped this error, resulting in scanners using the actual talkgroup number. BTW, in most of the radios, we program it in hexadecimal, so GPD Primary is 82D. In the system, it's 2093. Nowhere is it 33488, except in scanners....

Now before someone tries to explain the x16 error, it resulted from the scanner manufacturers using the 4 status bits as part of the talkgroup number, rather than the status bits that they actually are.

Glendale cutover planned for 3/21 has been delayed in order to allow more time for user upgrades.

Looks like ICIS via the City of Glendora was able to license 8 frequencies for the San Gabriel site.

WQXI507
471.3625
471.6375
471.8375
471.9125
471.9375
472.2000
472.6625
472.6875

Hopefully this will be better expreience than the continued usage of current business band frequencies

I wish the coverage into Ventura County was a little better. A few spots that are completely blocked out. Still waiting for the Oat P25 freqs. Maybe that will help out

La Verne PD

La Verne is currently now using their trunking channels as dispatch instead of their conventional P25 one. It's not confirmed yet wether or not thats a permeant switch or their just testing it out for now . Originally their ICIS channels were their backup system. Also it's encrypted , unlike their conventional one was not.
