Is anyone else tracking the new testing on ICIS this week?

36736, 36032, 36000 (which was called Blue 8, but I highly doubt it is County Fire Dispatch!) Were talking about a shooting range in the 661.

Testing between Oat Mtn, Glendale and Burbank cells.

Actually, I think it was Beverly Hills PD....not sure though...their system is up and running, but none of the city users are online yet. Just the random radio techs doing sound checks.

---

anyone have any idea what 6992 and 7216 on the Montebello cell are? They are lightly used and only seem to be active in the weekday mornings. I submitted 5776 at Montebello PD, as it was used extensively Friday night for DUI enforcement.

Santa Maria is full time encrypted....no scanner can pick that up! I heard it was because of the Michael Jackson trial and comms that the press used during that...but I am not sure.

Santa Maria is full-time encrypted, but conventional (not trunked).

No chance of that happening, unless you want to get into some serious hot water with the FCC. It's illegal for unauthorized users to unencrypt encrypted comms.

I know it sucks, but that's the way it is...

I heard some testing on talkgroup 7568 today, did some investigating and noticed it was on 891D System 7.....which is new to me.

They were using a pair of the Culver City/Oat Mtn frequencies intermittently that werent being used by the Culver City 7E21 system.

Karl:
Pretty safe bet that Culver City will become Site #7 on the ICIS SmartZone system. With Bev Hills linked in (Site #6), I believe Culver City is/was next on the list. Once everything is in place, the Sys ID will change to the ICIS ID. I'm pretty sure that you can not run different Sys ID's on a SmartZone system if I recall from my training at /\/\.

I would call that a very logical assumption.

Thanks Steve for jumping in. While I can understand that both you and Jim are limited on what you can provide as far as specific "detailed" information on ICIS, I appreciate both of you adding what you can to the discussion boards.

Regards.

Any of the high tier XTS/XTL Motorola 450-520 trunking radios with P25 CAI, and future support for true P25 trunking.

In your case for "monitoring" the system, any of the newer Uniden scanners with P25 will work, the 785D, 796, 996, 250d, 296, and 396. The Radio Shack 96 and 2096 will also work.

Motonet Talkgroup?

Motonet, hmmm... I like it. Now I wish I had called it that. ...or maybe Monet (too artsy) or Motnet (too much like BotNet). I just named the talkgroup "Motorola" so I guess I wasn't feeling very creative that day.

More ICIS earmarks in Congress

Bill could bolster public safety coffers

subhead.gif
If passed, money would pay for state-of-the-art communications equipment, patrols and other vital services.

By Ryan Vaillancourt
BURBANK — The U.S. House Appropriations Committee approved a bill on Thursday that would pad Glendale and Burbank's coffers with $750,000 in law enforcement funds.

Earmarked by Rep. Adam Schiff — whose district includes Glendale and Burbank — the funds include $500,000 for the Glendale-based Interagency Communications Interoperability System, known as ICIS, and $250,000 for Burbank Police Department's Park Patrol Detail, Schiff said.

The funds are part of a $53.7-billion spending bill that encompasses the budgets of the U.S. Justice and Commerce departments, NASA and the National Science Foundation, Schiff said.

The local programs that would get a boost from the bill were cited by Glendale and Burbank officials as law enforcement priorities, he said.

"Basically, we go to the cities and law enforcement agencies and ask them what are their highest priority needs … what are the things they would like to do that they don't have resources to do?" Schiff said.

Funds allotted to the Interagency Communications Interoperability System — a radio-based system put in place in 2005 that allows law enforcement agencies to communicate across jurisdictional lines — would likely serve three purposes, Glendale Police Capt. Raymond Edey said.

First, a portion of the funds would go to an expansion of the system's master site, which is housed in the Glendale Civic Center, Edey said.

Another portion would allow the system, which is supported by a Motorola proprietary operating system, to migrate to a nonproprietary, government-supported platform, Edey said.

Lastly, the department is in need of new radios, he said.

"The radios we're operating on right now are old," Edey said. "They predate our transition to ICIS, so they, especially in the rugged duty use of law enforcement and fire, they have to be upgraded rather routinely."

Having cleared the hurdle in the appropriations committee, the spending bill is now headed to a vote on the House Floor.

The measure will then have to be reconciled with a Senate appropriations bill before it gets to the president's desk, Schiff said.

"There's always the threat that the president could veto a bill that these projects are a part of, so that's a hurdle we have to overcome," he said.
