But why is it that most utility companies use 200mhz?
I have seen this is various systems across the usa.
I don't know of a single utility company in California that uses 200 MHz, including the nation's largest utility, Pacific Gas and Electric. Both Southern California Edison and the L.A. Department of Water and Power use 900 MHz trunked systems that are really spread out geographically. I like using the 1.25 meter ham band (222-224 MHz) as it is similar in coverage to VHF High (specifically 2 meter ham), but starts to pick up a little of the reflectiveness of 400 MHz (specifically 70 cm ham or 420-449 MHz).
