ALWAYS PREPARED WHISTLER Whistler WS1025 The WS1025 Analog Desktop Radio Scanner is a 200-channel scanner that lets you listen to FM radio bands and can be categorized into 10 separate memory banks. Also, it offers the convenience of one-touch searches of marine, fire/police, air, ham and...www.whistlerscanner.com
I purchased a “new” 1040 on Amazon last year and it definitely was new. Amazon still offers both the 1040 & 1065 new and refurbished.I bought a refurbished WS1065 on Amazon earlier this year. They still had new ones available. Whether they were new old stock I have no idea, nor did I really care.
It’s a decent scanner for the price, but one of my biggest peeves is the amount of double-AA’s it takes— 4. It eats alkaline like candy so if you’re planning on walking with it get yourself a really good set of rechargeables. Batteries Plus Bulbs has some good batteries.Thank's ya' all. I want a ws-1040 for milair, because of the sensitivity.
Correction - bcd396xt.Thank's. Agreed on the 4 aa's, but the 325p2 eat's em' up. I really, really should kept my bcd3966t<Z>. Lol, that scanner was pure bliss.
I’ve still got mine- and the 346. Best scanners ever produced. My 396 is typically my daily carry since it doesn’t eat up batteries.Correction - bcd396xt.
What irks me is they went through the trouble of buying out GRECOM yet didn't even have the common decency to keep support for those models on their websites, i.e. PDFs of the user manuals, and especially firmware revisions we could download, etc. Seems like a huge fail on their behalf. I know they're older and some of that info is floating around out there, but now the only option is to download a firmware update from some shady 3rd party link to a "new" old scanner I just acquired with no guarantee it won't brick my scanner, frankly, sucks. I'm not even going to chance updating it.ScannerMaster's have the older Whistler scanners, if you are talking about the older GRE models Whistler inherited when they bought the company. that would be a different question....

IMHO, Whistler totally dropped the ball on the continuance of producing quality scanner's. They took the old GRE stuff and rebadged it. Yes, I was sorry after I sold my psr-500. They obviously did not have any engineer's with Paul Opitz <RIP> qualities. Even WhistlerWendy went on to greener pasture's after seeing the obvious writing on the wall. Whistler was quick to try to derail Uniden's sds sale's. Then they realized they could not produce a simulcast geared competitor scanner. I believe they even made reference to not being able to do so. In short, I guess I really don't need a ws-1040, especially if they don't support their older product's. I will make do with my Uniden's, Icom and Radioshack model's that handle milair. My loss, I guess. What irks me is they went through the trouble of buying out GRECOM yet didn't even have the common decency to keep support for those models on their websites, i.e. PDFs of the user manuals, and especially firmware revisions we could download, etc. Seems like a huge fail on their behalf. Hey, you can still find decently priced GRE scanners on eBay. You can also look here on the classifieds. OfferUp, Mercari, Facebook Marketplace, and yes even Craigslist are a few other resources to find some pretty good stuff. Two years ago I added my 3rd BCD396XT to my collection from OfferUp. $250 & it was basically unused and had all original stock parts.IMHO, Whistler totally dropped the ball on the continuance of producing quality scanner's. Saw plenty of them (GRE/RS) as well as 996P2s last month at the local Amateur FleaHey, you can still find decently priced GRE scanners on eBay. You can also look here on the classifieds. True, I see PSR-500s occasionally cheap. Got one myself in almost new condition cheap. I really wanted a 396xt, since I love my 346xt. Prices on those have gotten pretty ridiculous though since the "supply chain shortage" issues. In 2019-20 I would regularly find them in good shape for under $125. Now a quick check on Ebay shows 2 different 396xt models sitting at $300 and $350, and the older 396T models at $180-$200. Hilarious since last spring a brand new 325p2 could be had on Amazon for $320!!Hey, you can still find decently priced GRE scanners on eBay. You can also look here on the classifieds. I love both my 346/396’s. Wish Uniden would re-release that case-type with all new hardware. Reimagined 396 with DMR, NXDN & P25-PII.True, I see PSR-500s occasionally cheap.
