I noticed today that the O K9 units working in Troop 2 dropped the "K9" from their callsigns and are "King" units now. For example, "O-K9-5" is now "Ocean-King-5" on the radio. I haven't heard any regular K9 troopers come on the air yet but I'll keep an ear out.

... And I just heard "2-K9-7" refer to themselves as "2-King-7" so I suspect ALL K9 units are now "King" units. :)

Ditto here in Troop 5. Just started hearing it this week.

Greg

Same with 9 & 10
Maybe it has something to do with the new license plate design, not be able to fit everything on the plate? Troop 15 is still using the "K-9" designation. I vote to keep it, those pups need the recognition!

Dist. 17 HQ was still signed "District 17" when I drove by today.

Looks like the new license plates have made it to Troop 2. Saw a trooper with someone pulled over on the other side of the freeway. I couldn't see the unit number but did see the new plates.

Saw my first replate here in Troop 6. It was 6-66 on one of the throwback designs. Saw a Troop 3 plate earlier in the day but didn't pay attention to the exact number. It was a 3 digit number.

I was in Cicero this past weekend, and saw a parked Troop 3 squad car with the new '3-xxx' plates. That's my first sight of the updated version.

Every ISP car I saw in Troop 8 over the weekend had the new plates. The sign in front of the old headquarters in Litchfield still reads District 18.

Most likely a hire-back/OT car. They've been advertising hire backs on the air in SW (esp. for afternoons) almost daily. One of my neighbors (Troop 2) has been picking up shifts in Troop 3 on the regular for months.

Saw new plates on a Troop 2 SUV tonight - I don't remember the number but I did notice they added a "-" in the plates now. The dash wasn't in the old plates :D

Troop 3 frequently has traffic missions on various expressways. Until the Probationary Troopers go to solo status, other Troops will be sending troopers to assist the staffing. The 14 week requirement should be ending soon, and more likely that not, it will be all Troop 3.

I'm pretty sure I heard this stop, and what you were looking at was a Troop 15 pool car's plates. Tac-1 in use now for one of those traffic missions.

Sounds like some more identifiers have been changed,

1x05135 - Robert 72 - Troop 2
1x07096 - Paul 10 - Troop 3

Robert 72 is doesn't do incidents or anything just 41 & 42 when necessary. Sounds like he is in the Quad Cities area since he used 2-A for everything. Robert units in Troop 3 are still using Robert identifiers and saying 10-41 Riverboat. However R-72 isn't saying anything except for 41/42. My guess is Robert is for Gaming Enforcement division of DCI.

I first heard Paul 10 today on a Troop 3 channel (I believe 3-N). On 3/9 P-10 was using 2 Ida 36 as a identifier on Thursday (3/9). I have yet to hear one of the 3 ISP cessnas to find out if they they're still using the paul identifiers.

Might explain some of the radio ID changes I've been seeing in the past week and posting on the Starcom 2023 thread?

I've been searching the contract information for the Tollway Authority, and haven't seen any mention of this. I have seen the 2023 Troop 15 budget information on-line, and yet to find any mention of ISP contract termination documentation. Can your "rumor mill" point us into the direction of a document for our viewing pleasure? Is the plan to disband Troop/District 15, and those troopers can transfer to other Troops if desired? Will the Tollway be added to Troop 3 patrol assignments? Will the tollway reimburse ISP for patrolling?

I suspect that it is more likely that some D15 troopers are being detailed to Troop 3, either for voluntary OT or on-duty assignments from time to time. Cross-district details are pretty common and have been for years.

According to news reports there are extra ISP patrols on Chicago area expressways due to a rise in highway shootings and other crimes so it is a good bet that they are pulling in resources from where ever they can.

I remember years ago dealing with troopers from several other districts along the Edens and Kennedy Expressways during another rash of incidents. There were even District 2 and 15 cars working the Edens construction detail in the early 1980's.

Another consideration - Troop 15 extends west way beyond the confines of Troop 3. What about those Trooper assignments?
