anyone know if a kenwood tk-3170 uhf portable can be either software programed and/or be easily modded to tx. and/or rx. above 490 mhz ?.it's speced for 450-490 mhz.i'm mainly interested in getting it to receive up to 512 mhz.thank's for any help.

with it being a new radio, i dont think kenwood will have told anything yet, however i have looked at alot of pages and i cant find anything about that radio going out of range

I have a kenwood TK-3173 450-490 but im able to program above 490 fine.. The software just says the frequency is out of range but it will program it and the radio will handle it

yup,thank you very much.went to the kenwood dealer this morning.he programed a frequency in the 507's in and it worked just fine.he said maybe they don't spec.them for that because of a slight degregation in the sensitivity.btw,anyone looking at the new kenwood vhf tk-2170 or it's counterpart uhf radio.kenwood is offering a $40.00 mail in rebate until may something.check with your kenwood dealer.i have the vhf version and it's a great radio.soon to have the uhf one too.price's are very reasonable compared to other radio's.
