KSICS, PRO-106, and KHP

Hello all I am still a little new with my scanner. Today I reprogrammed it with the PSR-Edit program. My question is if my scanner will be able to pick up KHP talk at all or not? I know I can pick up the Salina Bus system on it. I am in Abilene which is Dickinson County. Any help would be great, plz answer here and/or by my msger scoots2281 or facebook as scott nordstrom. Thanks y'all

if you live in Dickinson county plug in 852.1125. Thats the control channel for the Dickinson tower. Youll also wanna put in 866.6875. Thats the conventional khp tower there. All units will be using the digital system there though soon. they just turned the digital side on. Youll also wanna put in the control channel for the ottawa tower. Im not 100 percent sure what that is though. Once you put in those control channels youll need to put the Troop C talkgroups. id put in other Troop talkgroups to because youll be hearing them as they pass thru. hope that helps.

I am using the software program as stated and plugged everything in that RadioReference had showed. I will look through when I get off of work to see if that is in, if not I will have to figure out how to manually put it in via the program. APCO is the only stuff I shouldn't be able to hear on digital scanners except for ICOM's correct? Thanks

APCO is the entity that came up with the suite of standards for P25.

Your 106 can monitor everything on the system that is not encrypted. Also, I dont' believe they have private calls (if that's what you mean by ICOMS) enabled on the system. I heard one when the Wavery tower first came on line but have not heard one since.

Thanks for your input. I've sparsley been hearing people on KHP C last couple of days. I rarely see their cars here anyways to probably true. ICOM is an type of scanner and is expensive. Like of OKC, OK mine nor other scanners will pick up conversations down there unless you have an ICOM. That was what I was asking about for up here.

KDOT is in the midst of turning on a number of digital tower sites through north central and northwest Kansas. There should be a number of new sites coming online this week.

I found 4 new sites active in SW Kansas when I was out there earlier this week. Lakin, Syracuse, Dighton and Modoc all have active control channels.

Edit: I just noticed they were added to the KSCIS page. Someone Lakin ended up being moved to China. It looks like there is a typo in the longitude. Also the alternate control channel is 852.775

I recieved this near Geneseo which is about halfway between Lyons and Ellsworth. I could get just enough signal to get this info from Pro196com software. Could this be the Dickinson County site mentioned above?
It looks like it is at least 60 miles away.
Site id: 215
PCC: 852.1125 Alternate:852.4125

I was on I70 from Ellsworth to Colby today and I did not find any new active sites.

Ok, I feel stupid. I just noticed my previous post has a typo. I pointed out a typo on the KSCIS page in that post.

769.93125 in neighbor tables on several KSICS towers

I'm noticing a new frequency hard listed on the neighbor tables from several KSICS towers this last week or so. 769.93125 is showing up recently but with a "Failed, current" tag. The only think I can find in the database even close to Kansas on that frequency is State of Colorado Statewide trunked system. I'm wondering if there is going to be an "inter-connect" somewhere out west to Colorado's statewide system? I can see where that would come in very handy at times.....

Hutchinson PD will not be switching for a while yet. In todays(Sunday) paper there is a story that the car radios work, but the handhelds are not working in some buildings. Also, the plans for the KSCIS Hutchinson site are on hold due to a lack of funding. KDOT is bringing in a portable site for the state fair.

Here is a link to the story on their website.

Joe could that be for the COW's? They supposedly have 700 mHz trunking systems on board but never been able to locate the freqs or license.

Along Hwy 24 today got a new site...852.4875. I believe this is going to be the control channel for the Clay County tower in Wakefield. Signal was very strong on the hills along Hwy 24 in Pottawatomie county.

yea i think most of Troop C will be switched over so that'll be kinda nice. Thinking they will stick to having the Troop split into 3 areas. West side of Troop C will be using C-KHP-1 east side like Manhattan and Abilene will be using C-KHP-3 and C-KHP-2 will be north. not 100% sure on that but thats what they said before. All three channels will be simulcast though so no matter where u are, you should be able to hear all 3 channels. That's is if you're able to hear a tower that's in Troop C. They have'nt officially told many of the guys these digital sites are up and going so alot of guys are still running off the conventional channels.

The COWS are strictly 700 Mhz trunking 1 control channel and 5 voice channels.

That's not true at all. They very rarely use the 700 mHz trunking system. From what I have seen most of the time they use 800 conventional (8CALL, 8TAC1-4) repeaters and have the capability to patch across to a number of VHF, UHF and 800 radios. But with it being at Hutch for 2-3 weeks for the fair and testing according to the article, one would hope for a capture on the 700 freqs. I'll try to make a trip and snoop. I think it's been mentioned but maybe not; the state template for 800 radios lists 2 command and 10 Incident channels for each of the 2 COW trunk systems.
