The only radio traffic I have heard on the COW 700 TRS seems to be fair maintenance. All the KHP and EMS fairground dispatch ("Hutch State") is still on the 867.1000 analog fair repeater.

KSICS coverage in the fairgrounds was really spotty- especially with all of the metal and heavy masonry buildings. I can see why Reno County / Hutch is having coverage issues without a site in the city.

OK maybe I just can't figure out this P25 stuff, but how are you tracking the COW? I added 769.93125 to the rest of my KSICS control channels thinking since the TG ID's are the same I'd hear them, but I had one of our State radios with me at the fair today until the battery died and could hear traffic on ICS 1 and ICS 3 but the scanner never heard anything. I could also hear the control channel in search mode. Do I need to put it in its own system?

KSICS has been spotty the last few days. I can usually find a spot in my house to set my PRO106, and it is good to go. Now it is good for maybe 15 minutes and I have to move it. It is good for a while, and then it needs to moved again. I can put it back to to original location and reception is perfect again. Most of the time is only a few inches. I know this is normal for digital but it seems to be worse than it has been.

I have heard requests to repeat transmissions due to going digital. I don't know if it is more than normal, I don't get to listen enough to establish a pattern.

i need help. i am not getting very many talkgroups anymore on my PSR-500 with the KSICS. i can only get the KHP Turnpike and the Toll booth and Lifeteam. i can't get the KHP or KBI anymore. i re-uploaded and checked settings several times. It's not getting much and i have a full or near full signal strength. I'm new at these digital scanners and am listening to the Reading Tower in lyon county.
i have a wildcard scan plus programmed talkgroups.

Welcome to the forum. Do us a favor though, please do not post the same question in multiple threads- it just leads to confusion when there are similar discussions going on side by side.

Amen. You will get an answer or at least some well-intentioned guessing. We're all busy people and aren't able to respond immediately to all questions.

Hello All. I have been logging new TG Id's for 2 days now. I have 2 that I can not get Identified. Hoping someone can help me out here. I am on the west side of Wichita. Signal Strength on both ID's were weak according to ID Tracker III. Mid-40's on both. The two ID's are 2292 and 338. Also a thank you for the person who suggested turning "Multi-site" to static.

I heard 2292 a couple of days ago too. I think it might be Butler County. Haven't heard 338 but it looks like it would fall in the block assigned to KHP Troop E (SW KS).

Heard a lot of traffic during the storm event last night. The scanner doesn't pick up half the traffic on a given talkgroup that my state handheld does...SC10 EOC (2010) was busy with weather and coordination traffic between several counties after it was reported Cowley County had significant damage and injuries (which ended up not being factual) and ICS-8 (2026) was active with what sounded to me like possibly the Incident Management Team planning for a response if needed. IMT's are specially trained responders in each region who can come in and perform the ICS Command staff functions (Logisitics, Operations, Planning, etc) in support of local incident command.

I heard the same thing. With the KEMA (Kansas Emergency Managers Assn) conference in Topeka this week, I think that was coordination between managers up there with their home counties during the storms.

I got a brief transmission on 2281, when hearing the Cottonwood Falls tower, don't know what it is. also 501, 511,512 from the Reading tower

Well I see someone submitted freqs for the South COW to the database, albeit wrong. The public safety band is 769-775 and they list 800.xxxx freqs. Don't think so. Here is what I logged:
Control channel: 769.93125
Voice channels: 774.83125, 774.05625, 774.03125
supposed to be a 6-channel system so I obviously missed a couple. Again the talkgroups for this system are the ICS1-ICS10 and Command 1 & 2 from the database.

Over here in Abilene I was able to listen to the local State PD via the Dillon Tower frequency but can't anymore. I pick up state KS A area I think which covers 81N and such but can't pick up local anymore. Also the Abilene tower has been having a lot of transmission problems lately too. Somebody is messing up

I wonder if the problem is the rebanding conversion. I don't think any of us can possibly imagine the logistics of changing frequencies on 76 towers AND reprogramming thousands of mobiles. There is nothing "timely" about it. I have not been contacted about reprogramming any of the state 800 radios we have. I suspect that until all the towers AND all the mobiles get re-done there will continue to be significant issues. As an aside it appears that the Partridge tower is running a mix of both the old 866-868 and the new 851-853 frequencies.

Map of KSICS

Here is a (poor quality) map of the system. I will work on getting a better copy.

Basically, all the areas in yellow and green are covered now. Counties in pink are pending and counties in grey are out of luck until more money can be found.

The map is kind of misleading- obviously radio coverage doesn't stop at county lines! Saline County has been covered for some time by the Ottawa tower. Even though Geary and Morris are shown as pending, they have quite a bit of coverage all ready from the surrounding towers. Wichita County will obviously be covered by the new Scott tower, etc etc. Overall, they probably have 75% of more of the state covered or pending now.

IC-1 traffic in Cowley County

Hearing a LOT of traffic on TG 2019 (ICS-1) out of Cowley County this morning 10-1-10. Sounds like patched traffic from their UHF system (some analog static and tail squelches). Doesn't appear to be for any specific incident, just general traffic, both Law Enf and Fire/EMS. Also, all traffic is displaying Radio ID: 10787. Just testing maybe?

Turns out it was an Amber Alert Drill to test the readiness of Cowley county's CART (Child Abduction Response Team). The drill lasted until about 11:00 am. They shut off the UHF bridge after that......
