Does anybody stream KSP on the internet. Particularly the Columbia post. Also, has anybody listed all the scanners that are capable of picking up KSP transmissions.

Thanks Ronnie for the info. You have been a big help.

Is the KSP still using their mobile extenders or have they migrated to just issuing UHF portables?

I used to listen to the MRE frequency when something was going on close by and would be able to listen fine. Here recently I was near some considerable KSP activity and havent heard a peep on that frequency.

Guess I will have to buy a digi scanner in the near future...

I programed a BCT15X for a friend last month, and he said it is not picking up on it any more. So it seems 154.665 is dead.

I am mobile alot. 154.665 is still used by KSP. I do think they are transmitting at a lower level of power with their new system so you have to be very close to hear them.

Any of you Daviess county guys interested in starting a scanning club?

I realize this post is a couple years old but I've talked with the OP and they are still interested in trying to get a scanning club started for Daviess County. I would be interested as well and being as how so much time has gone by, I thought I would bring it up again. Would anyone else be interested in participating?

I realize this OT for this thread but I replied here since this where the original post was. If any of the moderators feel it should belong somewhere else please free to move it.

I am still learning the new digital systems and how they work. I am confused about KSP being listed as a P25 system, but it shows up and loads as a conventional system using win500 to import from Radio Reference. I loaded all 14 from the Henderson post 16 and I have already heard traffic on a couple of channels. So can P25 be conventional as well as trunked?

P25 Can be Conventional and Trunked... KSP Has multiple conventional repeaters in P25 digital mode spread around each post district. Each post's group of repeaters are linked so if you are talking on one you are talking on all of them for that post.

You can have a conventional analog or conventional digital... And the same for trunked, Analog trunked and digital trunked.

A little off subject but what all do you normally scan?

I normally just scan public safety. There was an accident last week where they wanted KSP to help out with traffic control on the Audubon Parkway and I noticed I didn't have KSP programmed. I do now and all is well.

I am hearing Pikeville County Sheriffs Office on 154.0625 With DCS Code 205 from Cedar Bluff, VA .with no Problem. I have programmed all of the Pikeville KY Section of the KSP and the proper P25 Network access codes, and I'm not hearing them? I am aware that the WV Statewide Radio Network uses some of the frequencies. Any help would greatly be appreciated. I'm using a Digital RadioShack Pro 197 Scanner.

Thanks

I could be reading things all wrong, but here's what it looks like to me. Both KSP and Pike County have transmitters on the state forestry tower at Dicks Knob on Highway 199.

KSP is using UHF frequencies and Pike County is VHF. A 100 watt VHF transmission tends to go farther than a 100 watt UHF transmission. So I suspect that might be the issue.

With KSP using three towers in this one county, that tells me there are some significant coverage issues. In places where it isn't so mountainous, they'll use one tower to cover three counties.

A good, tall outside antenna might be a solution for you as you may be just at the cusp of the signal.

Also, just in passing, some folks have attempting to program KSP as a trunked system where it is conventional (though digital) thus not receiving KSP.

KSP Issue

I have a good Tall Outside antenna connected by a cable line which hooks into the back of my scanner. I tried programming as a trunking system, with no success.

Did you have any luck with programming it as a conventional system? Trying to program KSP as a trunked system doesn't work, as you have found.

If programming as a conventional system doesn't work, you are probably just beyond the "reach" of the system, despite the good antenna system you have. As noted above, 450 radio waves won't travel as far as a 150 radio wave does.
