Is it possible that you are not programming it as a conventional, FMN frequency? No need to try and force P-25 trunking format for those frequencies. The scanner, with the NAC programmed in, will decode on its own. If you are importing directly from the RR database, the software will automatically place it in the correct mode.
In my state, the DNR has gone P-25 conventional. My PSR-800, Pro-197, HP-1, Pro-106, and 396XT all receive it great.

Local cross banding with KSP current setup

If troopers were given the apx 7000's, with their current in car equipment could they then set one car as a cross banded "repeater" site for a particular event and have the comms between troopers there set up to send in on the VHF and receive on the uhf. Basically cutting out the tower repeater system and just be a stand alone local repeater system?

They would need to have particular freqs in those portables and set the mobile to repeat to a set freq but would that work, or am I missing something?

I was a Trooper in a state with communications similar to what KSP is using. To my knowledge KSP is still using a VHF vehicle repeater which uses a VHF High band portable. When the Trooper is out of the car with the vehicle repeater enabled the high band portable transmission keys the UHF mobile transmitter on the channel selected. The vehicle repeater transmits the UHF radio reciever just like it is the mobile radios speaker. If scanning on UHF you would hear the non priority channels selected in the scan menu through the VHF side of the vehicle repeater.

With the APX 7000 portable the trooper would have the option of transmitting his portable on VHF or UHF. When my Department used High Band VHF Vehicular repeaters we had the talk around option. When you key up a portable radio a tone is transmitted which activates the mobile radio via vehicle repeater. Our talk around did not transmit the tone (private line/channel guard or digital tone). With the talk around the troopers could talk to other troopers within portable radio range without the base station hearing the traffic. With the scanning feature on a scanning VHF portable and vehicle repeater & UHF mobile gives the Troopers many options.

This basically is a cross band repeater system however the range will be limited on the vehicular repeater side because most mobile extenders/vehicular repeaters are 500 mili watt output with 2-5 watt portable input. This is why many agencies have Mobile command vehicles with high antenna mast which can be utilized at major incidents to cover larger geographical areas.

I'm not sure if they could or not. For that to happen, the channel in the APX would have to transmit on VHF and receive on UHF. I don't know enough about this model radio to say whether a given channel can be "dual banded". And then there may be an issue if several vehicles are there all of which are acting as a repeater.

KSP does has a mobile command post and I believe it may have a VHF repeater in it - they are licensed for it (154.92 FB2T). Until the command post shows up, they have another channel in their portables they can use for portable to portable communications.

Mobile CP's have dual advantages over normal Vehicular Repeaters. 1: Much more powerful radio, usually 40 to 100 watts. (VR's from 2 to 10 watts usually, though I have seen a few with 40.) 2: For those so equipped - crank up or zip up mast up to 50 feet high, thus giving even more range. EDIT: Then there is the MCP with an SOW.... Site On Wheels- And they can have up to 100 foot masts if guyed and locked in place properly, and outputs normally of 100 watts. Now your talking 10 to 20 mile ranges.

I just picked up KSP Post 2 on 460.0625 using NAC 196... RR has it listed as 195. Anyone else monitor KSP 2 StCharles Site that might be able to confirm this?

RR Databast listing:
460.06250
KJJ516
RM
195 NAC
KSP02AStChrl
02A St. Charles-Hopkins County Transmitter

Give me a few and I'll fix it.... Could one of you kinda monitor the other freq on St. Charles and see if the NAC is reversed... Thanx for the update!

It may be a couple days but I will monitor it and see what I can figure out. I wanted to make sure I wasn't seeing things when I saw 196 come up.

Is Post 9 having problems? I've been getting 2-3 bars on most days for the past week, whereas the Post 14 repeater, which is in the same location in my county, comes in consistently at full signal.

Doesn't make sense to me. I've tried different antennas. Different locations in the house. Everything. But the problem persists.

I'm also receiving 450 and 460 frequencies from longer distances than that particular repeater.

Please tell me Post 9 is having technical difficulties.
