More longer winded:
Each post has several transmitter sites within the post area. For example, Post 4 Elizabethtown, has seven sites. There are two "channels" for each post. A is the alternate channel and B is the primary dispatch channel. Thus for Elizabethtown their primary channel is "4B".
The trooper will select "4B" on the mobile radio. That mobile radio will check all of the sites associated with the post for the best signal and tune to it automatically. This is similar to a voter/comparator on a repeated system with several receiving sites.
If a trooper travels outside of a post area, he/she will manually switch his/her mobile radio to the channel for the new area. For example if the E-town trooper goes into the Post 3 Bowling Green area the trooper will manually change the radio from 4B to 3B.
