You can get awful creative like this. I've done my XP machine and a couple phones.
Curious, anyone try gif format? Also a TIF format should work given no compression.
'paint' will not work becaus the file headder is different. It must be converted to bitmap, and specifically 24 bit color.
Pixel height and width are specific. I think you can reduce it but it would be smaller on such displays.

Graphics of the correct size in the .bmp format are the only graphics the scanner will recognize when it boots up, it will ignore all other formats and sizes.

MS Paint will work as well as any other graphics editor for creating opening graphics as long as the size is set to the correct parameters and "saved as" a 24 bit .bmp file named "opening.bmp".

Uniden never made a BC596 scanner. If you're asking about the BCD536HP scanner, no... that scanner does not have the capability to show an opening graphic on the screen.

The HP 1&2 and the SDSx00 have that ability.

Radio Reference will not allow me to post a photo of any boot screen I have.

Just know that my boot screens do little more than establish my ownership of the radio.

And offend most folks that turn on one of my radios...

Not an issue with my computer or phone.

My friendliest and least profane boot screen simply says, "PISS OFF!"

So, no, my boot screens can't get posted here.

I just want random people to understand that they shouldn't mess with my radios.

My friends think it's a hoot.

the tutorials on YouTube tell you to leave the SD card in the scanner and open browser, I just turn off scanner, remove card, open it in my computer and slide the BMP file over into it's main directory. My opening pic is now displayed, can anyone tell me haw to extend the 2 sec. display?

Can't. That's usually just long enough within bootup, before going into the copyright screen, then DB/FL loading. The total time doesn't take that long, anyway.

I noticed every time I update the SDS200 data bank, I loose my customized display that takes me "long time" to get it as I like. Why does it do that, is there a memory setting I'm missing? also it says nothing to scan after update and I have to put in my zip code for it to scan my area, is there a procedure for that, many thanks to those that help.

At first glance, I would suspect a bad SD card. Have you tried a new card? When you say you update the databank, do you mean you are updating the database on Sentinel and writing that to your SDS 200? Do you have favorites programmed in as well or are you just running on the full database? If you have a favorites list, make sure it is set to "Monitor ON" and "Download ON" on Sentinel or whatever program you use to update your device. As long as the startup image is in the \BCDx36HP\ folder, named "opening.bmp" and set to the correct dimensions, it should load every time regardless of any updates done to the device. Also, it shouldn't ask for your zip code when you turn it on unless you did a full reset which is why I suspect the SD card.

Are you updating via Sentinel or are you just copypasting the folder by removing & reinserting the SD card? The latter might do that.

I'd rather have a light blue (like sky) for the background color, buuuut, it only took me 30 seconds to make! I Can Hear You!
