Okay, I don't want to hijack this thread any further, so this is the last I'll say about it. If anyone's an idiot, it's me, because I talked to the communications guy and I was wrong. We don't have APX 8000s, we have APX 6000s, so if the 6000s don't support LLA, which I thought they would, but guess not, then now I understand the issue.

Have the people from MARCS come down to explain things. It’s obvious you’re getting your information from someone who either 1) doesn’t have a clue or 2) is intentionally misleading you/your agency in the hopes of making a sale.

What Redbeard said is correct: All APX models support Link-Layer Authentication.

They do but if you have "AN" version (last letters in model number) you have until end of year to order the flash upgrade.

Heard some activity on Ohio MARCS TG 54520 LEComm 6 with some RID's that were not MARCS and with another agency. Can anyone tell me what department it might be? I know 9000XXX is OSHP and 94000XXX are the feds.

Per the Wiki, 8xxxxx is Brown County.

Only issue is the numbers are only 6 while MARCS are all 7 except for a few that are 5 or less. Usually dispatch consoles. My guess and not being from the area is a local agency may have a dual systems set up. I see 9000XXX numbers on a non-MARCS system where I live when they are working together. Replaying the audio I was able to determine they were in the Area of Bentonville in Adams County. Up north all of the RID's are the full 7 digits. Thanks!

As a general rule, the counties go by their county number. Ashtabula is 400000 (6 digit). Brown is 8 so 800000 (6 digit). Carroll is 10 so 1000000 (7 digit). And so on.

MARCS are not all 7s.

MARCS are not all seven. IDs for counties with numbers lower than 10 are only six.

The ID logic is in the Wiki.

I am inquiring if the MARCS FREQS listed are going to incorporated into the interoperability in District in Lawrence County in Southeast, Ohio.

MARCS is already part of the interoperability plans statewide, and Lawrence County is a MARCS user, so yes.

Reason being is, I have heard interoperability in that area sucks
Do the agencies in Lawrence County having trouble with interoperability have MARCS radios? Do they know how to use their MARCS radios?

MARCS has very good coverage throughout the state, but it's not designed for seamless portable radio coverage, especially in hilly areas (like SE Ohio). Even so, it works very well. Most often, the problem is either users not knowing how to properly use their radios, or not wishing to do so. It's not often a problem with the system itself.

You are getting actual OTA Aliases off of Summit Co? Great. Thus far, only some Zone 4 simulcasts have been noted as sending OTA Aliases. In East Ohio, in Jefferson, Belmont, Columbiana and Harrison Co there are no sites that I've found sending OTA Aliases.

Lawrence County has great MARCS coverage in their centers of population -- the villages and cities along the Ohio River. There are towers in Crown City (Gallia County) and across the river in Huntington WV (Rotary Park and West Road) and in Ashland and Greenup KY. This was done to overcome the radio shadow from the cliffs along the north side of US 52 and State Route 7. There are some minor MARCS coverage problems in the sparsely-populated rural parts of central and northern Lawrence County. It is my understanding that legacy VHF radio systems for police, fire and EMS are being kept operational in case someone ends up in a dead spot.

I just checked Columbus City, Columbus MARCS and Pickaway County with DSDPlus; none are broadcasting OTA aliases.... unfortunately. Sure would be handy.

And now back to Pro96Com. DSDPlus is a PITA for monitoring large P25 trunked sites; too much effort needed...
