To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

OK so I know this is a long shot but I am hoping someone has a similar setup or has knowledge of this that could help me out.

We have a bunch of Motorola MTS2000 Flashport II handhelds that we use. Each has a 4 digit identifier that is displayed on the Zetron Call History Window after each radio keys up.

Now as for Radio protocols I am not that versed. I assume this system is on the MDC1200 protocol, based on what I have read these radios are capable of and based off of the 4 digit identifiers that these radios are programmed with. (Someone please correct me on that if I am incorrect)

Instead of sending the radios out to have new IDs put in every time a radio changes hands I am attempting to setup Alias' in the Zetron system. The following steps are followed:

In The Radio Dispatch Programming I go to Define Lists > Subscriber ID definitions

I enter the Subscriber ID currently coming up on the call history window : IE 1234

Subscriber Alias : John
Long Alias: John

Radio / Encode Type: MDC-1200/Zetron IRIM Type A

When I key up the radio it still does not display a long alias in the call window!!!

I am using a Zetron Model 4217B audio panel and Motorola MTS 2000 Flashport II handhelds.

If anyone can point me in the right direction it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

You have to enable each DCC to decode MDC. Using a laptop with a serial port, hyperterminal and the custom serial cable provided by Zetron. Connect to the DCC, select Channel A or B then select the signaling format. There is also a section in the RDPS under the channel setup where the signaling type has to be configured. Unfortunately Zetron did not make it easy and put all these options in one screen or one piece of software.

So even though the Zetron system is already showing the 4 Digit ID on the Call window, I still have to go through all that trouble to set up alias'?

All I want to do is set up alias' so the Zetron system recognizes the incoming ID and than displays an alias instead of the reprogrammed ID in the radios.

I didnt think it would be this difficult that I would have to hook up a serial port to the zetron system. It is crazy it would make it this difficult.

I was just going over all the steps to make sure MDC decode was enabled. So, since you say the console is displaying the raw 4 digit data being sent by the radio, has the console ever successfully displayed an alias?

Just reviewing more steps... Are you saving the RDPS file, opening the Zetron dispatch software, reloading the configuration including entering the password if prompted? If you have more than one workstation not networked to a server you will have to reload the config on each machine manually.

Not saying you are doing anything wrong just trying to start from the beginning and work up to the finite details.

No I definetly appreciate you taking the time to think it through with me.

As of right now the Zetron system only successfully displays the 4 Digit IDs that are programmed directly into the Handheld Motorolas. The system is not and has never successfully displayed a short or long alias, only the regular identifier.

After I enter into the RDPS, I input what I listed before than close it out. I check back and the stuff I entered is saved. Than I close the RDPS software and it asks me if I want to save. I hit yes.

The whole time the regular Zetron Radio Dispatch and Integrator IRR are running.

I did try to right click on the IntegratorRD and hit reload configuration, doesnt seem to have done anything.

Anything else I should try?

JJ, I figured it out. Ever mess with something so much you mess it up and than in fixing your mess up you fix the whole thing by accident? Well thats what I did haha.

In trying to reload the configuration I locked up the whole Zetron system. Upon restarting the whole computer the Alias' started to work.

The whole time it was as easy as just restarting the computer. haha.

Thanks for the help. I really appreciate it.
