To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I have an XTS5000, and I recently set up NAS. It doesn’t affiliate at all. However, I am having trouble hearing transmissions and the radio is missing them. I’m unsure what the issue is but I feel like I may have possibly messed up the band plan. Any tips to stop missing transmission? (Monitoring Starcom21)

I have been perfectly with talk groups in Will county. This issue is fail 001 while trying to monitor Starcom in Dupage county. As far as I know I have set up the trunking system and scan the same way and I was asking for a solution or answer.
The answer is your 20+ year old radio is dying. Fail 001 is a synthesizer out of lock. The XTS5000 BSM will tell you that.

Here is a tip...slave a non user editable empty scan list for all trunking personalities...these radios are not able to TX or affiliate when they are busy bonking "EMPTY LIST" at you.

An extra extra extra step to lock down your rig. I have a legit subscriber APX that doesn't affiliate if I empty a scan list and change channels to a talkgroup with scan switch on.

You are saying to put an accessible channel with trunking personality? A little uneasy about this, but thanks for the tip.

No, that user is not saying to make a trunking talkgroup accessible by button or switch, they said in their findings it's an "An extra extra extra step to lock down" in the chance of a screw up and selecting a real trunked talkgroup. It's an interesting find. To put an empty scan list on the trunking personalities, (remember NAS is using the conventional personality scan list, not the trunking scan list) so if a trunked talkgroup is somehow selected and programmed personality with that empty scan list, the radio is caught up in a error loop instead of attempting to affiliate

My XTS, I usually hear dispatchers fine, some field users ar ground out with noise, eating the mic or too far from it. XTL with same codeplug sounds much better.

So how do you get digital voice if the scanlists are analog. I thought first 16 channels (analog) hide the digital RX only lists.

Yes exactly...I tested this by removing my scan members, selecting scan, then changing channels with a scanner next to me set to the input of the control channel...no blinky red LED, no chirp of affiliation either...left it that way for like 5 minutes to see if the bonking would ever stop, but it doesn't time out.

Okay, this makes sense. I have not heard of this before. Usually just use the switch to turn on TX Inhibit to “lock it down”.

It doesn't work like that. The radio will still try to affiliate with tx inhibit and it won't unmute the audio if it thinks it should be affiliating but can't

Really? I heard that TX Inhibit will not allow any sort transmission as a feature for hazmat situations or something of the sort.
