Epn,

First, wonderful work and just a great install all around.

Second, the industrial strength cup holders are a nice touch! :)

Thirdly, are you a "newsie", or an Emergency Manager of some sort? I would like to know what the application that you use this equipment with is, if you don't mind.

If you are just a hobbyist, then you must be one of the most dedicated hobbyists out there!

Very nice, indeed!

Seriously. I'd like to see the OP's home set up! It HAS to be better than his mobile one, right? Which means it would be friggin' awesome!

Otherwise, it would be too depressing to leave the truck!!

I see the xm/Sirius antenna.....and the garmin gps round antenna but what is the third one for on the right?

Also I don't see the scanner antenna either ? Multi coupled to what type ? Super clean and well organized. I'm still waiting for someone to powder coat the console to their interior color.

What part of SoCal are you from? I'm guessing OC/San Bern area.. I'm up in Ventura area

Yes, I am in the Inland Empire but basically am all over So Cal. If the fire is big enough and last long enough, I'll be there!

I am not a "Newsie" per se, I do, on occasion provide video or photos to the media. I am a Fire Photographer and mostly shoot for and provide photos to various fire departments.

Actually, the house is nothing to write home about at the moment. I am relocating and will have the home shack back up to speed in a few months. But bascially all I have is a standard 19" rack wish my radios mounted. The home shack is just to alert me if something is going on locally.

The third GPS ant is for Mobile Threat Net. The three NMO antennas; 1 is for the TMV71a, 1 is for both the 5710 and the 890 run from a diplexer and the 3rd antenna is run from a Stridesberg Multicoupler. It has both scanners and the 880 & 980.

I wish I was controlling some radio functions with the iPad. I mostly use the iPad for quick stuff and monitoring various local CAD's and of course more fine detail mapping. When I need to do some programming or want to have the scanner info on the screen, I use the monitor with the lappy. I use Proscan to run the 996XT's and my 396XT. Fantastic program that Bob built.

Beautiful

Well, without a doubt that's one of the nicest mobile installations I've ever seen. Even beats the pro install in my P71 Police Interceptor.

I also have an F-150, a 2003 SuperCrew in immaculate condition. My problem is that I have the 60/40 bench seat and don't have a center column for control heads, knobs and twirlies.

The overhead speakers are awesome. How did you secure them? Self taps to some support overhead?

I too have a K'wood TM-V71A that was among those that had original filter problems. It's at K'wood in CA right now and was among those 71A's serial numbers that required a fix and mod from K'wood, gratis.

K'wood repair was a day and a half turnaround. It's in the mail heading home now.

Antennas...great job on that.

I'd be ashamed to show you my F-150 rig photos.

Oh, here in NJ we can't have any driver viewable monitors, dvd players, computers etc. Most people shrug it off, but one could be help culpable in an accident if a lawyer wanted to press the issue.

73 - Good job!

I guess coming from a public safety standpoint and someone who actually needs this kind of thing; why have it if you don't?

I just don't see the need for two scanners, a ham radio, and a huge console like that.

Not meaning to troll im just wondering

Why all the equipment?

Hello Renegade,

Of course that's a valid point and I understand your position. I'm not the owner of the console in question, but just wanted to share why I'd like to have the exact same thing in my truck.

I can see, from a professional point of view, how you'd question all of the gadgets if you're not going to "use" them.

Obviously, you're interested in the public safety aspect of using communication equipment, otherwise you'd probably not be participating in this discussion or be here on this forum.

It depends on what you mean by "using" the equipment. Our friend with the nice console and setup is using them as a hobby, or perhaps he too is a pro or volunteer responder. Having 2 of something lets you hear twice as much, or one scanner might not have the same capability as the other. All of the equipment is functional and has a purpose...to listen and/or communicate 2 way.

On top of that, those who appreciate installations like this see his work as art! Funny, but lots of us could only dream about having the skills necessary to assemble a console like that.

I'd have all of it, the same way, any day.
