often in my experience you can hear a transmission in receive farther, but the distance where you can key up from a portable is often less
Ok, this doesn't seem to be the case since it's a wide area simulcast system and Bolingbrook is just being used as a reference point since no CTA lines run that far out of the city.

27010 no longer seems to be MDW Incident. It is rebroadcasting a CPD channel

It's still a Midway Incident channel, but for some odd reason, a Citywide 1 patch started broadcasting over a year ago that's very overmodulated. City Ops tried to use that channel in the spring for an incident, and made mention of "not being able to use it due to some interference." No one called down to the OEMC and ask them to disable it. There's no reason or purpose to have it and I suspect it was done in error somewhere along the way.

Thank you. I have been monitoring Site 1, only started to poke around to see what activity is on Site 2.

Your welcome, and you must be close to Midway too to monitor that site. If you happen to be listening to the Com/Snow channels, they're getting ready for the weather.

As some regular listeners probably noticed the poor audio quality from the CFD OEMC consoles the past week. On the EMS talk groups, you can hear a" MDC tone being transmitted prior to the the dispatcher transmitting. In addition to that, both OEMC EMS consoles are very low, especially when the female dispatchers are on. Just have naturally lower voices to begin with, and add the consoles being low, it's almost impossible to hear. I have noticed the OEMC is complaining the ambulances are "cutting off the first part of their signatures" more often since they started using either stand-by consoles or some software that Harris added, I'm not sure? Whatever it is, hope it gets corrected.

Also the past week on 3 consecutive days, the CFD command staff was testing the 460 Mhz system. Many issues noted, and we were told they were comparing the two systems. Chiefs were told to switch to SE 800 (Special Events 800 Zone) Special Events-1 channel if they experienced any issues. From the day I dedicated to listening, many dead spots for the 460 system were overcome on the 800 system.

Seeing some new radio ID's in the 304xxxx series coming up. So far, these were self-identified as Department of Finance mobile units (Boot Teams, Security), but "speculate" this series will be used in the future for Streets and Sanitation units. No previous 3xxxxxx series used.

Information on 5-Z (Zebra) Teams that started back up on CFD EMS talk groups today:

Removed CFD paramedics, replaced with EMT-B's hired by the Chicago Department of Public Health and trained is the change and reason why they haven't been heard for awhile.
I was wondering what was going on with that. He was all over the place trying to find the right TG. I thought it was a PD unit on the wrong TG

This was corrected this afternoon and OEMC audio levels are back to be normal.

Somebody dropped the ball. They could of just renewed the license and they would of been fine.
"The "catastrophic failure, and everyone has an opinion now" comment probably was referring to something along the lines that they're operating on unlicensed frequencies that was overlooked and now belong to someone else so something has to be done sooner than later...or at least that's what I make of it."

I guess I was on to something....again

It's also possible they might acquire portable radios that were programmed for the DNC, that CFD no longer use until the procurement process goes through and they purchase their own since they have to do something sooner than later. I don't know how many CTA rail operations need, but if they could scrounge up 300 or so radios, CTA techs could program them on the agreed upon/assigned talk groups, it could happen "sooner than later". This is purely "speculation" on my part, but ya never know

If anyone is wondering how the radio signatures correspond with the area of service is they follow along CPD District boundaries. For example 5-Z-78 is assigned to the 7th and 8th District CPD districts, 5-Z-01 is assigned to the 1st District CPD District etc. The map link I posted shows the current service areas...your all welcome...LOL!
