• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

(sorry for my English)

I wonder if there is any possibility to remotely control NX radios?
ex. I'm talking about configuration like this: PC <-cable-> NX700 <-air-> NX200 ( or PC <-cable-> NXR700 <-air-> NX200). I know that it is possible to start PTT in configuration PC <-cable-> NX700 / NXR700 / NX200 (using command: Speech Call Start etc.). In my configuration I have one transceiver (NX700) connected to PC and I would like to control all my other radios (NX200) through 'air'. I hope you understand what I'm trying to say.

I have one more question. I wonder if anyone knows which protocol is used for audio streams between NXR. I read in NXDN documentations that NXR can communicate using IP, so they have to transmit audio stream as well. My question is if they use RTP ( or SRTP ) for audio streams?

(sorry for my English)

Local Control is possible with the nx series base stations. You use the D sub connector on the back of the radio.

Software/ connector

How would one connect to use the dsub port in the back for local computer control of a radio. Is there a software that should be used for this?

I am looking to set up a NX-700 to be controlled from a Windows 7 computer. The computer has serial and usb connections.

All help would be appreciated.

I'm not sure I understand the above questions? All you need to connect a PC to a Kenwood NX-x00 radio is a "USB to Serial DB25 adapter cable" - Off the shelf computer item available on internet for under $20. You will have to program the radio to send data to/from DB25 on back of radio. You need some kind of software in your PC. Kenwood's KAS-10 Dispatching & Mapping software is available for under $500 list. You can set up the Dispatching programs to make a simple remote or a complex console to control multiple radios, groups & ID's. Send & receive text and call logging.

The Mapping portion allows you to select up to 20 radios on the screen at a time. You have to furnish the map of your choice. I like to use MS Mappoint but I believe the current price is about $400. You can download Google Maps for free but takes some time to figure out the process.

If you have an internet connection at the repeater/trunk site, you can use KAS-10 to set up your PC as a "Virtual Radio" without an RF radio. For a Virtual Radio you also need a USB vocoder thumb drive. You can use the PC's built in speakers & microphone & program an "F-key", space bar and/or on-screen mouse click for PTT. The built-in mic sounds good but my experience is that the built-in speakers aren't loud enough and sound muffled. A good set of amplified external speakers designed for your model PC will greatly enhance audio quality.
