My DMR guru friends, I am new to DMR operating a TYT-MD/UV 380 on my local repeater and I can’t get parrot audio to work for the life of me. I am in a fringe area on reception some days better than others but I can generally hear full conversations on other talk groups. I key the mic and I hear a chirp rather than the beep tone so I am assuming I can make the repeater. I have played with the admit criteria and double checked the freq’s / cc and Time-slots all matches online info. Even went as far as changing talkgroup number from 9998 which is listed to 9990 which is another parrot group still nothing. No clue now ?

do you know if the repeater you are working through actually offers that talk group? Maybe it is nor programmed in the repeater for use. Just a thought.

I’ve had the same experience with my Anytone HT, both on DMARC and Brandmeister systems. I've tried TS1 using private and group call as well as enabled Promiscuous mode. I attributed it to my distance away from the repeater, although I usually get into the repeater and have successful contacts on talk groups.

Has it ever worked for you?

Yes, but I’m not certain if it was one of the two local sites I was referring to or a another one.

Parrot talkgroups should normally be set as Private, not Group calls. Exception is if you are operating via SharkRF openSPOT (last I knew).

Hi @BabaDude77, I'll second what Mike said above. The repeater owner of a BrandMeister repeater here in Baltimore only allows for the America-Link talkgroup on the repeater so no other talkgroups are possible even if you try to bring them up. You cannot connect to them because they are not active.

Look at your received signal indication (usually bars when receiving a signal and an "x" when there is no signal present). If you make a connection, you will see a received signal. If the talkgroup is not permitted, you will not see a received signal from the repeater once you send the connect request. Likewise, you will also not receive any disconnect acknowledgement. As said earlier, make sure you are on Time Slot 2 and Private.

If all else fails, eMail the repeater owner and ask if the Parrot talkgroup is permitted...

I have never set Parrot to private, as it's always a group call on all repeaters have used.

Sometimes Parrot just doesn't work even if the repeater is working with other talkgroups. Also if you on the fringe of the repeater you may not have enough signal to make parrot work.

On different repeaters parrot sometimes work different. Some the id is one just for parrot and others pass the id of your radio when sending back the audio.

Just as a clarification, since my local repeater does not allow access to the Parrot talkgroup, I can only access Parrot via a hotspot. I did double-check my programming and via the hotspot, I am accessing Parrot with a Private setting. Perhaps it is different on a repeater. I do not know. Sorry.

I would reach out to the repeater owner. There was an update to PiStar lately that took every single DMR repeater in the area offline. Had to send an email for them to check the controllers and reset the server. You could hit it, but nothing would work or connect. 3 of them were multi-mode repeaters, and the other modes worked, just DMR. It's always worth sending an email.
