Global Parameters Question. (and a few others)

Hello:

Pretty sure I'm missing something here:

When working with setting up Objects, etc. in the program for various V Folders, it seems that many of the options are in effect "Global". e.g. the choices for Battery, and others.

After uploading, does this overwrwrite the Global settings in the scanner that were there as Defaults, and any changes to these defaults that were perhaps made ?

If while playing with the scanner, one changes some Global items, is it then required to go to all the V Folders residing on the PC and change them there also, so that upon any subsequent uploadings, these global parameters are not changed, inadvertently, again ?

Would also like to ask, please:

Do you recommend using "Super Track" ? If so, why ?

Is there any way, after creating a Talkgroup Object (wildcard), to "map" it to several of the trunked Systems, or must it be done individually for each System Object ?

Thanks,
Bob

Yes, that's why they're on the "Global" tab (and the "Extended" and "Weather" tabs are also global).

Yes. A V-Folder is an image of the entire "working memory" of the scanner. This includes Objects, Weather settings, Global settings, etc.

If while playing with the scanner, one changes some Global items, is it then required to go to all the V Folders residing on the PC and change them there also, so that upon any subsequent uploadings, these global parameters are not changed, inadvertently, again ?
If you want your customized Global, Weather, and Extended settings to be the same across all V-Folders, you'd have to make the changes in each V-Folder.

Do you recommend using "Super Track" ? If so, why ?
I use it because it seems to make my digital audio sound better.

Is there any way, after creating a Talkgroup Object (wildcard), to "map" it to several of the trunked Systems, or must it be done individually for each System Object ?
TGRP objects, whether they're Wildcard or not, can belong to only one TSYS. If you want multiple TSYS objects to each have a Wildcard TGRP, you must create a unique Wildcard TGRP for each TSYS.

Entering "Railroad" Freq's in SRVC ?

Hello,

How does one enter any frequencies for "Railroad" in SRVC ?

Doesn't seem to be any lines or boxes for doing it, like for Marine, Public Service, etc.

Thanks,
Bob

The Railroad Service Search doesn't have any configurable "channels", "groups", or frequencies. It's a fixed range from 159.810000 to 161.565000 MHz, on 7.500 kHz steps.

Possible To Add "Remove Duplicates" Function ?

Don,

Any chance of adding a "Remove" Duplicates in addition to the "Find" Duplicates ?

Or is already there, and I just missed it ?

Thanks,
Bob

Having Win500 remove duplicates would be a bad idea, I think. It wouldn't know which of the dupes you wanted to keep, and would have to prompt you for each one.

You can use the "Find Duplicate Frequencies" function to bring up a window showing all of the found duplicates. You can leave that box open (i.e. don't click "OK"), then go into the main Win500 window's CONV tab to look at the duplicated objects. That way, you can decide which items you want to delete, if any.

Another possibility (though I think the code and UI would get pretty ugly) would be for Win500 to actually display a "grid" of the CONV objects it finds, grouped by frequency, with a 'delete' checkbox for each. I'll have to investigate this.

It wasn't as ugly as I thought. In fact, it was downright easy.

Version 1.21 is available.

BIG request... I imported the Lucas Co OH system and even with the NOTES field it wasn't much help:

Ops 4 12 Ops 4 12 Group 10832

...but if you look at the database using the 'list all' format on the database, it appears RR3.0 also includes the tag and group name and that's critical:

10832 2a50 D Ops 4-12 Multi-Tac Zone 4: Maumee Ops

Any chance of adding those columns?

I can add the "group" column (and have for the next release), but the "tag" column doesn't (EDIT: yet) appear in the XML.

Don: Remove Duplicates Questions ?

Don,

Questions regarding the new Remove Duplicates function:

Once I have selected a frequency for removal, and the line has turned red, if I want to change my mind and Not select it for removal, how do I do a "de-select" on that line ?

Any way of holding down a Shift or the Cntrl key on my keyboard, so I can just click the lines I want to remove, rather than selecting each line, and then doing an individual Delete for each ?

Is it just my keyboard, perhaps, that doesn't allow this ?

Thanks,
Bob

Select the line and click the delete button again. From the 1.21 release notes: "Clicking the "Delete Selected" button toggles an object's "flag for delete" state".

That's the way it works now. You should be able to hold down the SHIFT key and select a block of items, or the hold down the CTRL key and select non-contiguous items.

P25 Entering ?

Hello:

Just want to be sure I'm doing this correctly, as I've not entered any of these before.
Not sure how to handle it, and similar ones.

Have a Homeland Security Freq., 417.200, that is apparently a
P25 Analog/Digital "Hybrid". (don't think that it's all digital ?)

Would I enter this under the CONV tab, and set the Mode to AUTO ?

O,r do I enter it as a Trunked System under TSYS, and use a wildcard to pick up all of
the Groups ?

If so, do I assume that the frequency of 417.200 is a CC, and just enter it in the Frequency Table listing ?

Thanks,
Bob

I have asked Don this question, but have not received a reply.

If I register WIN500, is it good for all upgrades for life ??
Or just for the current version and updates..?

Thanks in Advance...
It is good forever. Print a file copy of the key in case of PC problems.

LED Colors

Hi Don,

In the General Settings tab, where there is the matrix for the multitudes of possible adjustments to the hue, intensity, etc. of all the LED colors, is there any practical way to implement a means of seeing what the adjustments to the RGB's actually results in
while one plays with it ?

The 7 or so discrete colors that are available as options in the specific Object type lists are fairly different from what actually shows on my scanner's LED.

If I set them using Global\ from the scanner directly, these settings would be wiped out whenever I upload any new V Folders, I imagine. Hence, my interest in doing it in the software so these setting would become a part of any new uploaded V Folders.

Thanks,
Bob

Did you even tried it first before asking? On both, the software and the radio you can see the colors changing as you change the values....
