TOL F-16's.

Anybody knows their schedule? I used to hear them on Sunday afternoons with training missions in the 138-144 air-to-air band.....

Frank

Toledo mostly flies during the week. Usually 10:00am to 11:00am. Then again at 02:30pm to 03:30pm. Thursday they will fly an afternoon mission then a late night mission, 8 or 9pm. That time will get pushed back as the days get longer.
Toledo is flying this weekend (03-20-10). So far they've done 3 flights today. This must be a drill weekend.
MUDDY flights I've heard early in the mornings 7 to 8am, CAP (Combat Air Patrol training).

Here are some freqs I've heard the STING's (TOL
F-16's) use over the years.
Call signs STING, & YODER, LOMA, training & travel call sign.
MUDDY is the CAP call sign.

I just updated the 180th FW page on the RR Wiki not too long ago and made a few small edits just now, based on that post...most of it should be up to date.

YODER 11 (x4) and STING 21 (x4) just finished playing in the MOA. I only caught YODER on the way in.

YODER 11
V06 139.625
(all ZID): 317.625 > 360.675 > U9* 290.500 > 316.125
*confirmed preset

Once all of the players were set up, YODER called STING 23, who said STING 21 had a bad prime radio. They worked it so that the common interplane was V07 139.975. STINGS stayed on 316.125, YODERS went to 283.800.

They all went home in groups of two at several times, so I had a hard time getting the freq flow...here's some of it (ZID unless noted):
290.500 > 353.750 > 288.300 > ?
290.500 > 353.750 > 269.475 ZOB > ?

Also heard V08 141.600 active with some airtac, as well as V01 141.650 with codes.

Listening to the KTOL feed on LiveATC...F-16s are picking up clearance now. I think the one I heard so far was to a restricted area (something "01" as filed...maybe R-3401, but who knows). The Ohio MOAs are scheduled for tonight, and I'll be listening for them to go active.

LOMA 41 (x2) is the first flight, about to depart at 2035 local. I probably won't hear them.

YODER 51 (x2) cleared to SGH 150/40 - that will be the first flight to the MOA. Departing at 2045.

TOL A/D 317.550 > ZOB 251.125 > ZID 317.625 > ZID 360.675 > ZID 316.125
139.975

YODER says they have a tanker waiting in the shelf, cleared into the MOA. Will come up on 290.500 when ready to RTB.

Switching to 343.800 for AR at 2115, calling STEEL 73. Only caught one of the tails: 88-0527. I am recording, so I'll check it later to see if i got the other one.

Done at 2145, heading home.

ZID 290.500 > ZID 353.750 > ZOB 291.725 (not heard) > TOL A/D 317.550

Listened back to my recording; 51 was 89-2112, 52 was 88-0527.

Just started monitoring for the day:

ATOMICS just refueled in Buckeye with UPSET 51 on AR Primary 343.800. UPSET 51 leaving the shelf direct ROD.

SNIPER on 139.750 and just switched over to U15 343.000. Will be working Jefferson with BELLUM 21.

CUDA checking in with the range on 343.000. Up on SNIPER's aux.

LOMA 31 (x2) working Buckeye MOA tonight. Picked up clearance (listening via LiveATC) at 2040 local.

TOL A/D 317.550 > ZOB 379.200 > ZID 317.625 > ZID 360.675 > ZID 290.500 > ZID 316.125 > AR PRIME 343.800
139.625

AR with HAPPY 53, LOMA requesting 3K each. HAPPY working on 316.125 and 343.800. Had a radio issue before I could pick up tail numbers.

HAPPY 53 cleared CVG > ENL > destination.

LOMA is practicing CAP. One aircraft is MUDDY 11, the other is simulating ZOB on the airtac and HUNTRESS on 316.125. One tail is 89-2165, identified as a TOI by MUDDY. Ordered to escort the TOI to KHOC. The TOI is acting clueless - pilot has me laughing with his acting.

31 asks 32 if it is raining - 32 says no, that's St. Elmo's fire he's seeing. 31 responds that it was a dumb question, because it doesn't rain at 19,000 feet.

can i listen to the military with a digital scanner

Yes as long it has the UHF and VHF military bands and can receive AM instead of FM.
And some of the Mil bases are trunked digital too.
What model of scanner?
Someone may already have a file ready to use.

I added arrows where Air craft comms can be could so the basic answer is yes. Make sure you are listening in AM. Check the manual to turn AM on (if you need to). An external anntenna like a discone would sure help. An antenna like the RH-77 is a great rubber duck antenna that will help as well

BANDSAW KILO was probably SENTRY 40...called Patterson Metro for weather at KTIK and gave position as 25 mi N of RID, FL310 - that should be the ZID-1 track.

The 178th FW will be performing a flyover for the Reds' opening day. The first pitch is 1310 local, so I expect them to do the flyover just before 1300. For anyone in the area, monitor the VHF airtacs listed in the RR Wiki (under Springfield ANGB). Communications with ATC will almost certainly be on U17 254.250.
