I'm just surprised the state allowed the MURS channels to be programmed in the radios in the first place. I wonder if they actually do have any simplex channels/zones in their radios besides the V-Call/V-Tac channels? For example I know the ECEN radios have an analog simplex channel in their radios labeled ECEN T/A.
Beaver County and the local radio shops put a MURS channel in everyone's radios a few years back during a mass reprogramming. It carried over from what the county fire police use. So now there are all manner of radios up to and including 100W mobiles running around using it.

For York County you'll need to listen to PennDOT District 8 and make sure you have public works service type turn on in your service types list. PSP is a no go because they're 100% encrypted and always will be. Also make sure you only scan the tower sites in range from your location because it'll speed up your scanning time.

Just out of curiosity does anyone know if any state agencies are using any other radios than Motorola? I know the Kenwood VP series was approved for the system but didn't know if anyone was using them. I heard rumors PennDOT was using them but haven't been able to confirm that and I know PSP is 100% Motorola not sure about the other state agencies.

I was hearing comms on PennDOT D11 Flagger Ch.8 today, the first comms I've ever heard on a flagger channel.

I caught an interesting RID on TG10246 PSP PTC D1 of 15000080. This range isn't in the WIKI

I confirmed elsewhere in this very thread to seeing Kenwood mobiles in PennDOT trucks. However I have seen 800MHz site affiliations for PennDOT tunnel channels so they may be configured differently. The mobiles are not dual band but you can run dual radio/single head requiring two different RIDs and some competency on the user's part to know which band to pick. Which makes it more likely they are running 800MHz only on those trucks or using multiband Motorolas. I think the former is more likely.

The PennDot vehicles (Wreckers, Crash Trucks, etc) at the Tunnels have multiband antennas on them. Those antennas are similar to the Motorola multiband antennas that are seen on DCNR, but they have a small loading coil on the whip. Maybe the Kenwood version of a multiband antenna. In fact most PennDot vehicles assigned to areas with 800 sites seem to have multiband antennas. PennDot radios come up on most 800 sites during snow and road work details.

While some agencies bought and deployed the same radio model across the board, others opted to buy multiple radio models and multiple antenna types. PennDOT was one that went variable. Some agencies are all Kenwood, some are all Motorola. PennDOT seems to have bought at least one of everything and has opted deploy equipment based on what will work best in a given district. I can tell you the trucks local to me all sport the Motorola multi band antenna, but PennDOT definitely has other antenna models in service.

There are a bunch of RIDs in that range in the wiki. PEMA, DOT, PTC, all have non-Motorola consoles with 8 digit numbers assigned. They are near the end of the page mixed in with unknowns and some erroneous decodes.

Could be a console patch from the VHF side so the troopers can hear the analog traffic.

This is the antenna I have seen on PennDot Tunnel vehicles and many other PennDot Vehicles.
It does cover 760-870 even though the link does not state so.
WPD136M6C-001: Multi-Band Police / Public Safety Antenna for VHF / UHF / P25 with NMO Spring Base

The Laird is less expensive than the Motorola and reception is equally good, so it makes sense that they would go that route...they have a lot or antennas to buy.

All the PennDOT trucks up here in NC PA only have regular ¼ wave VHF antennas on them since there's no 800MHz sites up here in District 3. I also agree with your thoughts that the ones that are running multi-band antennas are most likely running APX 8500s.

I spend a fair amount of time in Washington Co which does have an 800 site, however I have never seen a PennDot truck with anything other than a VHF antenna in Washington Co area. Probably because most of the county is rural.
