UPMan,

Can you share with us what does the SDS100 do when it receives an encrypted signal? Does it make any noise, does it flash a light or just remain silent? Can you set the color of the text for encrypted transmissions?

Thank You Again for your updates.

I believe Uniden will make Sentinel compatible with the SDS-100 by adding separate settings in Display Options for the new programmable color screen. Sentinel already has separate settings for the 436 & 536 in display options. You can even pull the SD Card out of the x36 scanners and put them in a Card Reader and Sentinel can still distinguish which x36 scanner it is associated with so I don't think it will be a problem for Uniden to add these new features. Would make it a lot easier on us also.

Just curious I am currently using HP 2 and have the Sentinal software along with it. If you decide to purchase the SDS-100 could still use the current version of Sentinal or would this require a different version of it?
While the Sentinel version for the HP-1 & HP-2 is not compatible with the 436/536HP series, and most likely for the SDS100, you can still use your HP-2 favorites lists as starter lists for the SDS100 or an x36HP scanner. Just export your list(s) into *.hpe files and then import into whatever version of Sentinel is released that will cover the SDS100. The HP-2 export will not include some of the features for the other scanners, such as quick keys and alert LED options, the basic system information and text tags you had entered or edited.

All this talk is driving me nuts I would buy it just for the color screen . I just got my tax refund yesterday and am ready to buy. But it sounds like it could be June or July not good .

I have been ready to order since the first post where UPMan announced the new radio. Now this thread is just turning into a tease 1200 something posts and we still have a few more monthes to wait :( . I have the money put to the side to buy two as soon as they are released but I have a feeling we will be waiting a little longer. I don't even really follow this thread any more to many people are complaining about this, that and the other. I'm just keeping my eyes open for the release date thread now, I cant wait for this radio and the wait is killing me LOL. I have plans to buy two and fully upgrade them for Trbo, NXDN, and Pro Voice as soon as they let us know when they will be available to the public.

It’s early April. It’s great to be excited but I think we all better be ready to wait a few months. One thing is for sure - we can’t hurry them up. It’ll come out when it comes out. Patience necessary.

I think it’s great they are listening to user request...I have the 996xt ,15x and the hp2...I was not excited about the last versions...but I am very excited about this unit. Love to listen to DMR...all the golf jumbo I have been missing....I too hope for Lipo batteries..light and long lasting. I hope there is a way to just display - the basic lines like county, department and units... I like the white on Black for descrete display. Look forward this...least we got plenty of time to save. I’m glad there is a way to export hp2 to this new flagship.

Bluetooth?

I'm hoping a scanner will come out with Bluetooth. I'm assuming the SDS100 does not have the hardware installed that Bluetooth would require. BUT just in case has anyone heard anything about this radio being Bluetooth upgradable in the future?

Right now I have to use an external Bluetooth transmitter with my 436 in order to use my AirPods and I'd like to use the AirPods directly with a scanner.

I posted this information previously in my post #724 in this thread. FWIW if anyone missed my previous post, Bearcat Warehouse customer service sent me an email on 03-23-2018 stating that they were taking pre-orders for the SDS100 at that time so that you could receive a unit from their "first shipment." The hook/catch was that you had to supply your credit card information when you pre-ordered even though their exact selling price was not yet available or disclosed at the time of their email. (I don't know if the pre-order information from Bearcat Warehouse has changed since I received their email on 03-23-2018 as I have not received any further followup emails from them.)

I am posting this information for informational purposes only as I have no affiliation with Bearcat Warehouse. See my post #724 in this thread for an exact copy-and-paste of the email that I received from Bearcat Warehouse customer service on 03-23-2018: http://forums.radioreference.com/un...100-prerelease-discussion-37.html#post2903161

Okay that answers my question.

I do use an external Bluetooth transmitter now and I have not noticed any noise or desense problem to the ears. I have a spectrum analyzer on my bench so I'll sniff around and see what I find. I have built and own several community repeaters as a sideline from my main job in the news media. I know how susceptible wide band receivers are to rf. In fact some of my dozens of base scanners I have had to place cavities in front of the front ends passing just a narrow 1 or 2 MHz .

Thanks for your reply.

An external Bluetooth separates the RF from the scanner. Putting it inside the scanner makes the RF interference a lot more difficult to deal with.

I use an old standard / horizon radio external speaker from old fire truck it's bullet proof and can handle close to 40 watts, Kenwood has a com speaker that's similar also can take an input of 40 watts and is waterproof .for a wide open receiver you want a couple of turns thru ferrite on both high side and low side along with its audio .

Was thinking the EXACT same thing! Bluetooth audio through AirPods is the way to go.

I could have swore Paul said it was against the law to take any money or even to let anyone pre order something that didn’t even have fcc approval yet
