This is probably a moot point,from a Uniden lover. On my wish list, a more sensitive closecall, like on a par with spectrumsweeper. This is where Whistler/gre, shined.

Us finding out the insides of the SDS100 are no better than a $10 TV dongle, maybe...
And what are you basing that statement on?

The technical info so far released that it has an R836 TV tuner.

Its a newer variant of the discontinued R820T2 and is used in el cheapo TV tuners, dongles and satellite tuners, as I previously said.

So what? It's the RF ADC. The sensitivity and selectivity of the receiver is determined by the filters and mixers and amplifiers in line before the digitizer, and the competence of the code and algorithms processing the digital data that comes out of the chip. And having disassembled multiple Uniden scanners and SDR dongles, I've seen that there is a lot more to the preamps and filters in the scanner than in the dongle.
Is it time to take this thread down until we have the new scanner in our hands. Now we're discussing chip sets, dongles etc.? If you think you have a better product, keep it. Most here are in the waiting mode and the best part is, most companies have a return policy if you don't like the product. Or better yet, sell it on Ebay like my TRX-2 already was. Before I purchase any DMR or NXDN upgrades for this unit, I'll make sure it works as advertised on Illinois Starcom. If it doesn't, it will be returned. I really don't think Uniden cares what 5 anti-Uniden posters think and will survive without you.
Personally, I can't wait for the SDS100 to be released. Not because I intend to buy one, but because this thread will be put out of its misery.
You might be hearing it, but not trunking it. Had a TRX-2 that I recently sold, but before I did ran a side-by-side comparison on a large trunking system. Many missed conversations that I'm now hearing on the Uniden.
UPMan is reaching out to us before the next firmware is released. NXDN 4800 is trunking very well, NXDN 9600 has to be tweaked to trunk, which your TRX's are not. Stick with Whistler if you want to hear half conversations, the rest of us are trunking NXDN now. Sorry you're left in the dust..

Its not an ADC its a tuner, you don't seem to know what you are talking about.
Many of these Rafael tuners are only good for 8 bit downstream sampling which is not good enough.
The x36 front ends are weak, easily overloaded and have very limited filtering.
Interesting I don't seem to have that issue but I have or I should say had to use the att constantly on both my whistler scanners. Actually all gre,whistler and radio shack models I had had to have the att on to prevent overload. Never a problem on the Uniden products.
Sounds like you are mistaking GRE/Whistler for Uniden. My PRO-197, PSR-500 and PSR-800 were horrible in strong signal environments (driving through city, or down along the river where up on the hill is a large RF-laden transmitter site). They would go totally deaf.
I can take / have taken a BCD436 and BCD536 through the very same locations hundreds of times and they work throughout my travels.

No taking a thread down or editing posts out is not the answer, discussions are key if we are to decide whether to spend our hard earned 700 dollars on the sds100. Whether its positive posts about it or negative. As long as you keep it civil and on topic about the scanner or the hardware used it shouldnt be edited or censored! Upman said the type of decoder it will come with and we are discussing it! It will come with a rafeal R836 chip.

We're not discussing Whistler, their front ends are similarly mediocre.
I'd like to know exactly what the SDS100 is offering under the hood, at the moment, as I've said, I can only speculate its performance will be like a $10 TV dongle based on the only technical detail released which is the TV tuner chip in it.
Not true, given the multiple videos out there showing real-world performance of the SDS100 to be significantly better than a cheapo dongle. And as noted before, the filters and preamp before the chip make a big difference in overall receiver performance. Uniden provides considerably more than what you will find in a $10 dongle.
I'm not even going to pretend that I know that, because I don't. I'm not posing with the intention of bashing Uniden or even finding fault with them, or their new scanner. Even Icom is using SDR technology in their new IC-R8600 wide-band receiver costing around $2,500.00. So I'm pretty certain there's more than just a cheap TV dongle inside of it, same for Uniden.
I'm just trying to learn all I can about it before buying one. As many have pointed out most of us that can afford one will buy one. But I don't want to be one of the Debbie-Downers after I do. I'll know full well what I'm getting into at that point, and will know what to expect, and nothing more. If more comes after, awesome!

The videos show absolutely nothing about RF performance at all and I've seen no comparison video against a dongle, I bet it wouldn't come close to a $99 SDR Play RSP1A either.
What filters and preamp does it have then?
If it uses a tuner that is only good enough for 8 bit sampling then it doesn't really matter what you put in front of it.
