How do we know it’s the best

I believe he was referencing the firmware with the audio off timer and the hum issue. As far as further improvements via firmware I believe there can and will be more updates.

Concerning my SDS200:

After over 10+ years absent from the scanning hobby I jumped in feet first and bought the latest and GREATEST!

Here goes my assessment of this fine radio/team/company:

I did not realize I was affected by the "crackling" issue as my discone is on the floor inside my house near a sliding glass door and the systems I listen to are 20 to 40+ miles away. (Yeah.. been too lazy to install it outside on a pole.. and I work too much!!!... excuses, excuses.. I know...)

Well as of this update the crackling I was hearing and thinking was my Micky Mouse discone install is now all but gone. Would not have guessed that one!

Haven't tried Priority Scan yet and don't know if or how it affected me...

Did notice the"open squelch back light" issue (if you need to call it that) and even though it really did not bother me it now is a nicer effect that it holds to the end of transmission!

Last but not least I have noticed the housecleaning effect and (read above about my laziness) I did not change the hold time. But YES! I do notice a nice difference in that the communications are not being interrupted anymore!

Oh and there wasn't a hum on this radio right out of the box! But I do hear a click when it stops on a transmission and resumes scan (not really an issue).

At this time I have no regrets parting with so much money to own a software defined scanning radio of this quality and the superior quality assurance provided by UPMan and his team! You guys ROCK!

Thank you for your time and efforts! as it is being very much enjoyed and is now classified as one of those Items I will not part with as you will have to pry it from my cold dead hands after I beat you with it for trying!

Thanks again!!

Normal scanning may now resume......

Wow..reception of VHF and UHF analog comms sound much improved, to my ears, with this release. The "staccato" that was present on certain transmissions has been eliminated. Uniden and UPMan must be credited for listening to customers, standing by their product, providing innovative designs and setting the benchmark for radio scanning receivers. Please continue the great work...73's de Warren

Is it just me or does the radio start displaying bogus TGs whenever you’re on Site Hold? Even when I manually try to enter a TG, it displays another. My BCD436 and DSD+ display the right TGs while the SDS100 does not and it only happens when on Site Hold on a VHF P25 Trunked Phase 1 system.

When I use a quick key to go to a P25 system, it Holds on the first talkgroup in my Departments. From there, I do a Site Hold and then enter 151(a known talkgroup stored), and it shows No Stored TGID and still Holding. If I enter 151 again, it'll go to that talkgroup...Is this what ya mean or is this somethin else ?

OMG! The TITLE says both AND the body of the post says both. Any other comprehension of what was written just ain’t so...

As one who usually gets blamed for not reading an entire entry before spouting off or asking already answered questions, I find myself thinking “Been there, Done that!” But really, this one’s a no brainer. Does it also need to be posted in brail? (Interesting... can they even do that?)

As a new owner of a pre-owned SDS100 and having no prior experience with the SDS100 I can say I am extremely happy with the way it operates. Thanks to Paul and Uniden for continuous updates to improve a great product.

Ok, I've definitely got a bug in this new public FW, and I swear I saw someone else mention the same thing:

I site-hold on the closest site in our statewide 700 system here in NJ, and the 100 is now displaying improper talkgroup designations on many (but not all) transmissions it's hearing.

Traffic on 4409 is displaying the alpha of 4867
Traffic on 2235 is displaying the alpha of 2231

And so on.

When I released the site-hold, it goes back to normal. Anyone else seeing this?

Yes, it does that too for me. Very weird, random behavior. Right now scanning side by side with a BCD436, while holding on the same site on both, it has shown three different TGs for what I know is the same and only talkgroup active.

Yep, I brought it up last night and just replied to confirm with somebody else seeing the problem also.

I'm currently running tests against our state 800 SmartZone system, and it does not appear to be happening there, only on the 700 P25 system...

I’m seeing it happen on a VHF P25 system. Wondering if it’s only any P25 systems bug.

Just a thought..try using different filter settings..On a local Monmouth Cty P25 system there was no audio being decoded on my SDS200 vs my 536. The problem was visible in the Analysis mode. When I changed the filter setting it started working properly.I realize its not the same issue exactly but its worth a try... Good luck!

I don’t think filters will help. This is more of a throwback to the “Phantom TG” problem we’ve seen many years ago. I think it’s more of an algorithm issue brought on by getting rid of the ‘housekeeping” cycle this update incorporated.

In my case, and confirming by looking in Detail Mode of the radio, the issue doesn’t look like is just an alpha tag thing. It’s actually showing or decoding the wrong talkgroup altogether.

Apply using Sentinel. This is a public (not beta) release.
  • Modified crackle noise for analog voice on SDS100
  • Fixed the issue of stopping scan during priority scan on SDS200
  • Fixed the issue the open squelch backlight does not turn off till hold time expires
  • Changed housekeeping off while scanning one site and detecting its control channel (drop in signal every 2 seconds).
You should no longer need to set hold time to 255 (or some other long value) to prevent the housekeeping cycle.
Does this update apply for the SDS100E please?
