Re: Ridge Site - Hamspire Co.

Mike-

For WVSP activity on my side of the panhandle, I listen to Romney Dispatch 9007 through the Ridge and Romney sites--I can also hear Charles Town Dispatch 9005--but it's usually so busy that I just lock it out. The Romney-Dispatched 9007 cars seem to cover Romney up to Morgan Co line, down to Moorefield in Hardy, over to Petersburg in Grant, and up to Keyser in Mineral, so that TGID covers what I want to hear.

From my completely unscientific experiments, it seemed that 9005 Charles Town, was much busier than 9007 Romney--which is why I ended up locking it out. It doesn't help that both Detachment's cars seem to refer to their Dispatcher as "Romney."

Not certain that this answers your original question about why you don't see TGID 9007 on Martinburg or Kearneysville, but I can confirm that I can hear both 9005 and 9007 on Ridge and Romney sites.

Hope that helps.

Thanks. That helps a lot. Kind of explains why I don't see a lot of traffic on 9007. I still would like to hear it as well as the other counties when something is going on.

As far as the amount of traffic on 9005, yes it is a lot. I have a scanner set just get for that TG. I've Berkeley Co. had more traffic than most places I've been outside of Northern VA, Phoenix AZ, New Orleans, NYC, Atlanta GA, and Boston MA. When I go home to Staunton/Augusta Co. VA, I sometimes have to check the scanner to make sure it's still on.

Both 9005 and 9007 are called Romney now. 9005 used to be dispatched from Charles Town but a few years ago they moved all operations to Romney. I'm not sure why the move happened. The DB probably should be updated.

Has anyone heard if the National Park Service particularly the New River National Park plans on switching to SIRN. I've noticed the crusiers I've seen recently have a uhf antenna on them now.

Where do you live?

Ohio County has two sites which simulcast (or did) and if you're in the "right" spot they tend to cancel each other. I live in eastern Ohio near Harrisville and hear the northern Marshall County site much better than Ohio County.

Figured it out dr400 ,

good old 536 doesn't like simulcast. put the smallest antenna I have on it , and adjusted a few settings and its golden.

WQYU758 - New SIRN license - Wardensville (Hardy)

If you're in the Wardensville area, please keep an eye out for this site and report any findings. If you live near any neighboring sites and can run Unitrunker / Pro96Com and get a list of peers/neighbors to see if there are any new peers/neighbors, that'd be great too.

They have other UHF frequencies licensed at that site that aren't licensed as trunked, and which are currently being used for remote links. One or more of those frequencies may / may not end up being added to the site once it is online as well.

I believe TG 1289 is the Potomac Valley Transit Authority (buses) .. I hear them all the time over the Mon. Co tower

Thanks for posting that. That's good news. Hopefully those within the area will check the frequencies listed above, 454.xxx frequencies, and 406.xxxx frequencies. It is unlikely that it would go on with just the two frequencies above, but I'm not [yet] aware of any others. So people might need to check neighbor/peer lists of neighboring sites to notice a new site active/online.

Tower Name VS. County Info needed.

I am looking for some tower names from the database as they relate to monitoring in a handful of counties. I mainly work in Fayette, Greene, Westmoreland and Allegheny counties in PA. I do find that I wind up in the West Virginia counties that border these areas and also do work in these WV areas. I am looking to program the SIRN system into my scanner but only want to put the relevant sites in. The counties in WV that I will be in are Hancock, Brooke, Ohio, Marshall, Wetzel, Marion, Monongalia and Preston. When I am doing my import with ARC536 it shows town names for tower locations. Does anyone in this region know what tower names would work best for monitoring while in these counties? Any help with this would be greatly appreciated. I've had my BCD536HP for about 2 weeks now so I am on a learning curve with the scanner as it is!

Thank you in advance for any help with this.
