• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

So what exactly happened to the trunking firmware?

Did the beta test show it wasn't capable of handling it reliably or what's the deal? Would love to hear from beta testers. I really would like to be able to scan 2 systems with my g4.

Same here, nothing heard since last update. Only issues I have is with Harris systems if they have a large amount of frequencies or Statewide systems take little time acquire the CC

I guess the State of Michigan never signed off on those beta features. Sadly, Unication seems to have been beholden to Michigan ever since they seem to have signed some sort of exclusive contract to provide devices for MPSCS users. Perhaps I'm exaggerating slightly, but only slightly, as you can find posts from Unication reps where they flat out state that such and such a change needed to be approved by MPSCS before it could be added to production units.

Oh and the fact that these $650-$750 devices still cannot scan between conventional and trunking is ridiculous, and needlessly limiting. I have a 16 year old XTS portable that can do that with no issue.

It's not ridiculous... Unication devices aren't marketed as scanners for monitoring enthusiasts. They're marketed as pagers for the public safety sphere. They're proficient at what they're intended to do unless you try to make the device something that it isn't. If you want a scanner, my suggestion is to buy a scanner... Not a pager. Modern radios cannot scan between conventional and trunking either.

A few points. Firstly, the fact that Unication announced that they were going to introduce more "scanning" features to the G Series pagers, so that kinda negates your first point. And secondly, your claim that modern radios cannot scan between conventional and trunking is false also. I've got an APX sitting right here next to me that scans just fine between conventional channels and multiple trunked systems; the scan list type is either Multi-System Talkgroup or the more recent Intelligent Priority. But thanks for the suggestion to "buy a scanner".

Okay, let me clarify...

Modern radios cannot *PROPERLY* scan between systems or conventional. It is a hardware issue, and one that would require a completely separate tuner.

While scanning the alternate system or conventional system critical traffic is going to be missed on the primary / priority system which is a deal-breaker for the industry which these devices are intended for.

Complaining that a device doesn't meet specifications for which it was not designed is a bit silly.

My guess is that they couldn't find a way to make profit on it or that the consumer base isn't big enough for them to justify it or they just laid off people because of the plandemic. So it's just static, just really wish I had got the beta into mine while I had the chance. I have uniden sds100 and 200 and they are nowhere near the quality or reception of the unication.

Problem is, unless we force a downgrade, we are stuck on the beta firmware which has bugs.

If Unication has abandoned the 1.4 beta, they shouldn't abandon their beta testers too! At the least, they have an obligation to see that all those that upgraded are able to downgrade successfully to the 1.31. At most, they should offer to have the users ship their units back to Unication for a downgrade at no cost.

I know I read of several users that downgraded successfully, disregarding the Unication warning not to. But I have not heard of anyone that has tried it with negative results. Has anyone here "downgraded" to the latest 1.31 with negative or catastrophic results?
Just my uneducated opinion, but it feels to me Unication used us as guinea pigs to test out the scan feature so they can implement it into their "new scanner" that is on their website. There hasn't been a firmware upgrade since December 2020, and they promised me a fix for my $150 Amplified charger back in November 2020. Haven't heard a peep.

I don't see a new scanner on their site.
