IGOR36 must been landing at McGuire now. I'm in Millville,NJ and have 60-0366 at 5k. No other tankers within my range, but I am hearing CAP comms on 260.9. AR was just completed.

Sounds like 104th MD ANG A-10Cs are up doing some night time training. Hearing chatter on their A-A Freq.

Armed Forces Day Communication Test this Saturday

This Saturday (May 9) marks the 2015 Armed Forces Day Crossband Communication Tests. The Memphis District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (call sign WUG-2) will once again be participating. I am the coordinator for WUG-2 and look forward to working lots of stations.

As usual, I will have a special QSL card printed only for WUG-2. This will be available for both 2-way QSOs and also for correct SWL reports. The WUG-2 card will be in addition to the generic DOD cards that will be sent. No return postage or envelope is necessary.

Here is the specific information on WUG-2. You can send cards and reports to me at the address shown:

For the flyover tomorrow I noticed some things in the NOTAMs today that may indicate what frequencies will be used.

NOTAMs say 134.35 (DCA Helo control) will not be available tomorrow from 12-1pm. 119.1 will be the temporary freq. So I have a feeling 134.35 may be reserved for the flyover since they will be flying a route and altitude typically used by helicopters. But before they get to the DC area I think they may be on Dulles approach control 135.775. It too is "not available" tomorrow from 11am-2pm. That's not a very active freq to begin with.

There could be an interflight freq too. Maybe one of the helo freqs?
120.075
122.75
123.025
123.05
123.475

Back from DC now. I was right on about the freqs. Listening to my recording now and hearing the 135.775 comms I couldn't hear in DC.

There were two camera helicopters, KODAK1 and CANON1. EXPEDITE1 I believe it was, was the one that flew ahead and circled DC for a while. It would parallel each formation over the Mall. STRAWBERRY5 was the sea plane, it was circling over Rosslyn for a while.

On my recording they passed 132.075 for an Air Boss freq.

Early in the morning I heard and got a picture of N355MH which was IDing as "????Patrol". Never could figure it out. It left and said it would be back at 1100. I think it was one of the camera copters. It used to by a NYPD helo, it's got a camera mounted now.

Did you see/hear the TBM that broke formation, and declare an emergency? He landed successfully on 19 at DCA. Pilot apparently reported a fire on DCA tower freq. Hydraulic fluid fouled the runway at DCA, ground stop was in effect until they cleaned it up. I saw him break off, lost him in the trees, then re-aquired him a few seconds later with his gear down low and headed south from my totally awesome spot on the steps of the Jefferson Memorial.
