Guys,

1451 EST- Nighthawk 11 (helo HMX-1 MCAF Quantico VA)- on discrete (143.825 FM) working w/Nighthawk 3 & 4 (helos HMX-1).

This is new freq & mode for me for these guys. First I've seen them use FM Mode.

Had that freq in scanner since the McGuire KC-10s use it in the AM mode.

Another weird thing. For most of the day have seen Mode S database and Planespotter showing KC-135T # 59-0060 flying around showing Mode S callsign of PAT 0167. Last show landing at Andrews in the late 1400 hour. Never did hear him in voice traffic.

I saw both of them on Mode-S but only heard Venus 01 (82-8000). Looks like PAT0167 is head back home. According to Mode S database he's from Mildenhall UK.

Sonic Booms over NJ

Anyone have anything flying over south NJ today....lots of news about sonic booms. Between 1:30 and 3 PM. McGuire and ACY both say it wasn't them.

New Jersey Rocked by Mysterious Sonic Boom - ABC News

Amazing....up to 9 booms were recorded and no one knows anything.
The bay doors at work today shook 3 times, a few minutes apart.

Edit: Now saying it was aircraft testing out of The Naval Test Wing Atlantic, based out of the Naval Air Station, PAX

They said there was a flight of 6 f35s and they each broke the sound barrier twice. Lee Goldberg the ABC weather guy in NY said that a layer in the air could have caused the sound to carry a long way today.

Only log I had mode s was 158201 T-38C USN Pax River around 1930z at that time.
Maybe a F-35 test chase plane..In recent past have used F/18 as chase plane.
Pax River T-38's in recent past have caused booms farther South along the coast when conditions are right.
Course there is the US Navy Test Pilot school at Pax River so maybe a T-38 pilot got carried away.
Pax River has had F-35 for a long time so wonder what they were doing up off South Jersey.

Yeah that's a mode s miscode of of US Army Beech B300C #14-0841 that just came back from Europe.Seems some mechanic programmed the tail number into mode s aircraft box.
Shows as Russian mode s..LOL

Seems was a F-35 with F/18 offshore according to Navy..
