Just got another new callsign I didn't have in my database...
ARTIK 98 being flown by a C-17A, 99-0170, 517th AS Elmendorf. I notice him on Mode-S climbing out from somewhere in the area. Picked him up at 1702. Looking back in my log, it arrived in this area late in the 1400 hour.
Hmmmm...I mentioned earlier callsign TEFLON 04 being flown by an IL-ANG KC-135. It may be a mission callsign rather than unit callsign since I now have TEFLON 06 (TEFLN06) being flown by 63-8003 of the 108th ARW NJ-ANG McGuire. By the way, Scramble shows that tanker belonging to the 22nd ARW but it's not correct. It has been flying out of McGuire since at least January using callsigns ROCCO and TOPCAT along with the NETTF callsign ETHYL many times. I logged TEFLON 06 here at 1549.
Added: Okay, have that one figured out. TEFLON is the new callsign for the CAP tankers at the Kennedy Space Center during launch. It's starting to look like they've changed the callsigns for the various CAPs all over. In case you missed it, the Guard Dog tanker callsign is now GETTY rather than TANKER that they used for years. (Just got word on the TEFLON from a Florida monitor. Thanks Jack)
And speaking of unusual (well, at least to me)....REACH 809 with a letter suffix all over the place being flown by C-17s from the 437th AW logged today:
REACH 809D = 07-7180
REACH 809Q = 97-0046
REACH 809R = 89-1190
REACH 809U = 97-0048
I've never seen more than one at a time using the same suffix - even with different letter attachments. ARTCC confusion guaranteed?
And let's add one more...a couple of days ago I logged REACH 809 being flown by a B-757 from Omni International.
