PRO-96 and Summit P-25 question.

I have a PRO-96 and I'm wondering if it will work at all on the Summit P-25 System?

I noticed that the Fairlawn and Barberton sites use exclusively 800 MHz control channels (the Clinton Site has 700 MHz C/C's).

So if I program just the two 800 MHz sites, will the scanner properly track the T/G's / radios that affiliate with these two sites?

Thx in advance!!

If the control channels and voice channels are exclusively 800 MHz, the Pro-96 will work. If there are any 700 MHz voice channels involved at all, it won't work as well; when a talkgroup is assigned a 700 MHz voice channel you'll miss that transmission, and the more 700 MHz voice channels there are, the more transmissions you'll miss.

As you noted, a site with all 700 MHz frequencies is out.

Curious.........

Question.......Will Macedonia or Sagamore Hills be joining the Summit Co. 800 system soon(?)......next year(?) or will they stay as they are? Seems like they are some of the last cities to come on board.........or maybe not at alll !!??

Last I heard was Sagamore simply doesn't want to spend the money to move to the 800 system. Although they do have a few dead zones around Brandywine.

Macedonia has some 800 radios for interoperability with neighboring communities. Sagamore has tested coverage and expressed interest in joining.

Not so sure..........

It seems Macedonia is all alone on there own radio system.......when Macedonia needs to talk to surrounding cities ( and visa versa) they do it through dispatch to relay the info. I'm not so sure they have any 800 radios.
If they do what would they be using? Maybe County mutual aid? I have never monitored any PD or Fire unit ever on the 800 system. As I mentioned earlier PD & Fire units relay with info through dispatch to surrounding cities by landlines it seems. If you are aware or know how they may interop to others it would be interesting to know. For a large Northern community serving interstates, retail centers and the community their radio system seems dated. But hey........finances for sure dictate spending and maybe they are waiting for more regional stuff to happen or they may just be OK as they are !!!

The FD has a small quantity of 800 radios they can use to talk with other summit communities if they choose to do so.

Relays/Landlines?

OK I follow you that the FD has some 800 radios but do you know how or if they ever used them? Have you ever monitored them using them? Can they interop on those few radios to State Marc's-IP or Summit County systems for emergency management or their neighbor Oakwood in Cuyahoga County if need Be? Like I say I never heard anything other then a relay through dispatch then landlines. It seems the small village of Boston Hts has WAY more interoperability then Macedonia has should the need arise .Well anyways was just curious as to if they were upgrading or not and I got that answer a few posts ago.
Also have you ever monitored them interop the conventional vhf/uhf way to surrounding communities? Are they capable of that Method? I think the surrounding communities still can if needed. If you or anyone else has I was just curious if anything was heard and where others may hear it. Once again have only heard relay to contact others over landlines. I guess no need to fix if it's not broken............just seems interoperability has been in place with funding for a while now with most communities taking their turn to upgarde when able too and like I said before was just curious about Macedonia.

On recent occasion I have heard Summit County SO, Oakwood, Boston Heights and Walton Hills contact a Macedonia unit directly over the air on their UHF freq. As for Macedonia contacting another agency who is on the digital system directly I have not heard at all, although I don't monitor the digital system as much. Macedonia dispatch does have an 800 radio as they dispatch Northfield Village Fire who is on the 800 system, and I would assume they have the surrounding agencies programmed in. Also of note in case you were not aware, Macedonia, Sagamore and Northfield Village are all dispatched by Macedonia on the same frequency.

Having the radios and using them properly are two different things. It took the communities dispatched by Green FD a long time to get in the habit of using MAC over their own COM and OPS talkgroups. Mutual aid runs there were chaotic with everyone on MAC-something, except the agency the called for the help being on something like 31 OPS.

Thanks for sharing what you have monitored in Northern Summit Co. with the associated agencies. I myself have been exploring the digital systems and wondered how other communities were keeping up with new technologies and the push for interoperability especially Macedonia and Sagamore Hills.
Not long ago I monitored a car chase that began in Cleveland and ran through the valley then up into Summit County and even the Cuyahoga National Park, OSP, Sheriffs and was even more shocked as all those villages /communities/cities/agencies along the way kept in touch with the the good old standby VHF LERN frequency of 155.370 !!! I learned It pays to have that programmed in as it's not dead in this digital world !!

Thanks for the added frequencies and link....I'll certainly make sure to place all those Public Safety ones in also in the radio too. That was one of the most memorable and exciting 45 minutes of solid radio monitoring I heard in a long time. Especially all the agencies and how smooth and seamless they communicated with each other and to learn that all the vehicle radios had what I thought was an old "dated VHF frequency "in them.

I will be in the Macedonia City Hall area tomorrow. I will try to mosey over to the fire dept. and the Pd. and ask if they will give me info on their radio's. Maybe if I bring a box of donuts they may be more amenable to giving me the lowdown.(LOL) I will report back if the news is positive.
