I noticed an update on the Summit P-25 System. There is a new category of frequencies labeled "Simulcast".

Any ideas? Are these the new, permanent simulcast frequencies that will eventually cover all of Summit County?

No, same freqs used on 8D27 except control channel assignments will change.

I have heard that Summit County is going to the MARCS system. Also, that Akron P.D./F.D. and Summit County S.O. will be encrypted. Will the encryption include Twinsburg P.D. and F.D. and the other Cities, Villages and Townships? Thank you.

Read the last 2-3 pages of this discussion thread and pay attention to anything mszabo2000 says on the topic as this very question is mostly spelled out. The Summit County system is becoming a part of MARCS eventually, not being abandoned. The encryption question is mostly answered as well.

Looks like transition and / or testing of the new Summit / Akron P25 System has begun .. Akron Police are on the system. Current control channel is 857.6625. I believe talk group IDs can be figured by dividing old system IDs by 16 . For example, Akron Police Ch 1 was 2352 , now is 147.

From my location in Kent near Stow border, I'm experiencing some simulcast P25 distortion..
Not horrible , but could be better.

Just a follow up to previous post.. No agency is operating on the P25 county system yet.
Any transmissions heard this week were just part of the testing of the system.
Cut overs will be soon though, keep your ears up !

New voice channels on 8D27 system?

Not sure if this is news or has been this way for awhile but it appears the 8D27 system is using two new voice channels. I'm not sure if any have been dropped but these fell outside of the range of some SDR dongle's range and caused me to start throwing errors:

862.23750
862.78750

Submitting to the DB.

Those are not system frequencies. Maybe intermod or equipment issues?

I have to eat crow again. Apparently the latest update to trunk-recorder requires you to tell it if a smartnet system is rebanded. I was so convinced something happened here (because I found my system broken and unable to find the CC) that I went into Unitrunker and blew away the RRDB definition for the system and of course that made it say the same thing.

I think I'm just going to PM you before ever saying anything again :)

I've noticed a lot of activity on the CVNP TRS talk group on the Summit County 800 System, as well as numerous radio issues on the current CVNP radios being brought up to their dispatcher. Anyone have any info on their operations, are they changing radio systems?

I don't have any inside information but do you mean 41840 and 41842? I see they just started becoming active on the 16th of April, were apparently silent all of May and just started up again:

4/16 - 11
4/20 - 6
4/22 - 21
4/23 - 2
6/1 - 23
6/2 - 47 - I have transmissions from here forward starting at 10am
6/3 - 6

Everything on 6/2 is the techs doing five count tests, 6/3 were a couple of transmissions with no audio as far as I can tell.

Twinsburg radio trouble?

Somewhere between 3:30pm and 4pm Sunday Twinsburg PD moved from their Ch1 talk group to ch2. Some chatter right at the change suggested they sounded "better" on CH2 than on 420mhz so they must have gone back to 420 as a backup test too.

Late I heard a number of quick keys on their 420 fire band so its possible the FD was having issues too.

As far as I can tell they've remained on Ch2 ever since. Not sure why one talk group would be troublesome but another would be just fine.

I believe if you take the TG IDs from the existing Summit / Akron system and divide that number by 16, you will obtain the corresponding TG ID for the new P25 system. At least it's a general guideline.

I'm hearing Barberton, Norton , New Franklin on new system everyday now, some Akron Fire TGs started showing up yesterday. Transition to P25 seems to be rolling out bit by bit.
