To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

The price still shows $165 on their site, but when you go to the "Buy Products Online" and select the MD-380, it shows $130. It's real, but it is for a limited time.

Yeah I know. My only concern is the " demo" part as well as support from this company ordering direct. Did you order one personally from them?

I have ordered directly from CS in the past, but it is when I bought a couple of the CS700 radios. I have not bought an MD-380.

Jerry was asked how long. He replied maybe just a week, or maybe until the end of November.

The Yahoogroup post about it from Jerry on that group forum.

As a thank you to the Ham Community for having a good year and the grand opening of our e-commerce web site, we are offering a limited time special of the MD380 DMR radio for $130 which includes the programming cable. To get this price you have to order it on line and go beyond the home page which shows the regular price of $165.

Please spread the word of this limited time special.
Jerry Wanger KK6LFS

We are undecided. As little as one week but no longer than the end of November.

Ahh your Jerry!! Nice to meet you sir!! Love the deals!!! I got a couple of questions for you. (1) Is this demo just a sale on the radios or were they actual used Demo radios (2) when we purchase it is it directly from Connect Systems or is it sourced through a third party to get the deal?

Jerry

I spent several minutes talking with Jerry at Dayton. He is a very real person and was helpful and interesting. I also ordered my CS700 from him and have been very satisfied with the radio, especially for the price.

I want to give kudos to Jerry. First time buying a radio since I just got my Tech in May even though I've been around the community for years. I got in on the $130 MD-380 sale and then saw they were out of stock. Gave him a call and he explained they'd restock within a week and sort out their website backend problems

Then hours later got an email to customers who recently purchased a 380 notifying that some of the programming cables shipped with recent orders may have been the wrong type.

I totally understand hiccups in business and how Jerry has reacted is very comforting. Not only did he apologize for the shipping mixup, but the personal connection both over the phone and over email gives me much confidence while I wait for the next shipment to come in.

My 380 should be here within a week or two and for the price and personal response, I'll take the slight delay.

Hopefully can get on DMR-MARC and our private Florida DMR network in the near future.

Granted with basic shipping it comes to 141.55. Buytwowayradios is offering it for 164.99. Connect systems is sold completely out as of this moment and who knows when they will get more. It's a decent deal which their offering, but all in all still can't go wrong with going the buytwowayradios route either

It boils down to service. A friend received 2 defective CS700's. They were sent back, & the replacement radios came back in days. Those 2 were also defective, & also returned, & my friend gave up on CS700's. A full refund was immediately issued. Will Buytwowayradios do the same?

Well I have purchased from them before. Fortunately I have never had any defective products from them so I cannot attest to their service and support. I do know during the week they have live chat with sales associates who are there for sales and support related questions. Same goes for HQ98. So it can't be all half bad.

A good affordable speaker mic and I highly recommend them are Impact comms. I bought a speaker mic ( had the Kenwood 2 pin;same as Tytera) for my blackbox bantam radios. Love them!! Good audio quality as well as overall quality.

The NASA Wallops club just got in 11 of the MD-380's and so far we love them! I built up a default profile and loaded each member's radio with it. They each got a programming cable with their radio, so they can make any changes, additions, whatever they want. We have the basic function of our DMR repeater using both timeslots, as well as analog in dynamic mixed mode. So far, everyone is using DMR and love it. I think it's really going to catch on here.

I did notice a few quirks:

1. When you're in a menu and the backlight goes out, pressing as button brings the backlight back on, but it exits you back to the home screen. Annoying when you were trying to type a message or something similar. You lose what you were typing.

2. When I am editing a message, I can seem to get delete/backspace to work. I end up jumping out, then starting a new message, praying I don't make a keystroke error again.

3. When sending a message, when the person you're sending to is not in range or the radio is off, it seems to hang up because it never sees a confirmation of message received. In many cases I have to power cycle the radio.

For the backlight issue, I understand why the delay is there and then it turns it off for battery reasons. I would like to see an option to have the backlight on all of the time WHEN IN A MENU. Basically, if you are in any screen other than the home screen, the backlight auto-off feature should be disabled. Once you go back to the home screen, then the auto-off feature would be enabled again.

Just my observation and $0.02, but overall an amazing radio for the price!

Yeah there is a lot of " quirks" with the Chinese made radio. Fortunately the company has made a few firmware updates to fix screen issues ( in earlier models) and such. So they are responsive in that aspect for fixing common issues. However there still is some generalizied issues that have not been addressed yet. One being typos actually in the prompts. Another being stupid quirks that don't allow you to backspace or a simple feature to turn off the roger beep only.

Plenty of issues, but then again what do you expect for a DMR radio for under 200 dollars in almost all advertised places. The audio quality with its AMBE +2 vocoder and ability to encrypt with 128 BITS of AES encryption in and of itself is worth it too in my opinion, but it is no Hytera or Motorola by any means. One good thing is the programming software is more or less freeware considering their website offers it as a download.

Hi, I'm trying to program two MD-380 but I can not communicate with each other. They have the same frequency, the same group list, same color and same privacy. In contact name and I do not get anything if I put a contact just call Him. I've tried with and without privacy and inactivated it all but alone with the RX LED on the other radio is turned on.
