All 4 below can be a cc when need but site NYC and site Plainview for some reason, well those 2 sites just keep cycling certain freqs as control channels while the rest of the sites maintain 1 freq as a cc. I hate revolving cc as it clutters my DSDPlus event log.

Control channels for the trunks do have the capability to Rotate/Alternate
Some of the older systems [all depends on who programmed/installed them] rotated the CC every 24 hrs [12a or 12p]
others only change when the are working on it, or it senses issues [interference - some caused by Band Opennings] etc

Motorola Trunks tend to have a Primary and 2-3 Secondary or Alternates
Harris and some others, Any of the Frequencies can be used as the Control channel
Why do they switch back and forth? from 406.812 to 406.612 I noticed
as soon as 612 stops it jumps to 812 and so on? 73,s Marcy

- Site 117 is not in CT; deleted until positively located (almost certainly somewhere in Suffolk County)

- Site 144 just popped up and is located somewhere in western Sussex County

- TG 50 is a link to the FIO 1 network

It appears that there are no sites outside of NY and NJ, with the exception of the site in Philly.

Working on it. So far the strongest signal appears to be in the area of the Culver Fire Tower in Branchville, so it's possible it's the Gigi Lane/AT tower at 41.18664801786424, -74.76726601105196. But it's also gangbusters by the Sandyston Municipal Hall in the Hainesville area.

After the elimination of all other area sites and a hike, Site 144 confirmed to be on American Tower's Sunrise Mountain/Culver site at 41.186851, -74.767285 in Branchville by the fire tower. Submitted.

Site is a real flamethrower. Gangbusters just about everywhere.

Nice work. Must be up about same elevation as Hill 1606.

In other news both 117 and 129 are (barely) receivable in Cranford tonight from the top of the parking deck. Both coming from a heading between 075 and 080. So definitely Long Island. Measured via a real yagi and calibrated GPS. Weak, but distinguishable and identifiable.

Based on reviewing my notes from the hunt for 117 around Bridgeport and Milford in CT, it's gotta be due south of there. Port Jefferson, Smithtown, Middle Island area maybe?? I honestly feel like Northport and Huntington would be too far west.

129 I have no freaking clue. I'll leave that up to @dave3825.

All this for a fully encrypted system and the love of the hunt.

For me it is drawing a picture. Well worth the effort. I looked at sites and TG’s and UID’s. Picture developing stated by others. May not hear, but certainly can see. Good group effort. Gotta love the hunt. 👀

Left home today (Islip Terrace NY) and took sds200 heading East on Rt27 (Sunrise Highway) with just sites 117 and 129 enabled. Had no signal as I had the ant collapsed. 117 popped first and was fairly decent on Rt27 between Nichols Rd and Rt112 and even at William Floyd Parkway. Readable in Mastic NY. I had somewhere to be but at least I have a good idea of the West to East signal strength. I will get over there and start going North and see where I end up. I doubt its on The South shore but never know. Once I hit William Floyd @ Rt27, started seeing signal on 129 hinting that may be further East.

Big changes in noise floor on this band for me. I disconnected everything and no TV amps are running. This is on battery in the shack.
The noise increases in level as I tune towards 174MHZ. I am 29 miles SW of TV7 transmitter. Perhaps something is radiating this locally. For now monitoring here for me is done. Anyone else seeing this? If so, it may be tough to use this band. Pics 1.) clean, 2.} dirty same freq,3) near TV7 neartv7.pngQuiteBand.pngnewbandsamefreq.png

That looks like some kind electrical RFI, maybe a switching power supply or ethernet. If you are in a house, Try turning off your main breaker. If it goes away, turn off all individual breakers, main back on and then breaker at a time until it returns. Noise source is on that breaker.
Remember things that have backup power like UPS‘s that stay live when AC is off.

Thanks, I will try that.

It's not on the south shore...heading north from the Mastic area would be the right call.

I would say that "further east" is also the right call.

Yup, years ago my 436 could not pick up our smartzone system inside. Step out the door, worked fine. Started flipping breakers. It was our sons baby monitor.

The circus has left town. All of the generators and lights and rides were making the noise floor ridiculous. They were also line of sight. Thanks again for getting me on the right track.
