McCreary County is getting new radios..... "The envisioned system would purchase 11 TK2170LKP Portable radios w/shoulder mikes & leather swivel cases and 11 TK7160HK mobile radios w/o antennas. Radios would work off two 40 watt repeaters and use current antennas. Primary users are sheriff’s office deputies with handhelds made available to KSP Troopers, Drug Task Force agents, etc. during clandestine operations needing scrambler capabilities." "These radios are the same models currently used by the Whitley City Fire Dept. and Search and Rescue. Radios are programmable to use encrypted within the SO system or in standard communication with other agencies." "Current radios are often not operable in many places within our service area. An additional challenge to enforcement efforts is the “scanner land” that listens to every communication among officers. The criminals utilize our current system to determine our movements and whereabouts."
Looks like they will stay VHF....

162.910

I may have thrown this out there before, here we go again. Has anyone monitored a freq of 162.910? It is digital and what appears to be sometype of Federal Security or something like that. The "Dispatcher" is not encrypted but the units are.

Just thought I would check.

D

Very active around 10-1030pm...talking about units being off property for the night. I don't know if it Federal Building security or something like Raytheon on Southside. I know a couple of days ago they were talking about gates opening and shutting as well as traffic arms....that's what made me think it was poss Fed Building.

Good catch, Alan.... Looks like a new freq for the Medevac bank.... WQIC492 on Jeptha Knob. AirEvac Lifeteam hasn't updated their web page to show AE 56 based in Danville yet (I miss their old page with each of the bases numbered).... this freq appears to be in the perfect place to fill a hole in their coverage area...

Yes, it is actually 162.9125 and is a mix of digital, analog, and encryption.
My pro-164 gets a great signal, but no digital.
My BCD396 hardly receives this at all :( in the same location.
I don't think it's the courthouse, I'm pretty sure that is UHF

My initial guess is the airport, Air National Guard security. I need to get closer so the Uniden picks it up.

My GRE/RS model 164 rocks... I did change antennas today, and got better reception on the uniden. But could have been weather. I was picking up Bowman Tower and I usually never get them unless on the Watterson.

Heard one today with the roof antenna...151.145 that was digital but not scrambled. Didn't see anything in the database making me think it was it unless the forestry is using apco 25 or something now

New Radios and Unidentified Freq in McCreary County

I go down there every year for a reunion in October. Just got back. This year the McCreary Co. Sheriff was good and strong from the motel room. It's been weak in years past.

I give a listen to the unidentified frequency 407.6125 listed in the RR database for McCreary County.
Never heard a peep while running around Whitley and McCreary counties in KY, and Scott County in TN.

And someone tell my wife that a Ford Focus is NOT a four wheeler :)
