I am currently planning on using a UV-5R for a Broadcastify feed and am wondering if I could use a standard headphone audio jack cable plugged into the Boafeng speaker mic and the PC's Mic input or would I use the programming cable running to the PC's USB. I am currently using Scanner cast for software. Any help would be appreciated.

You can't use a standard 3.5 mm stereo cable.
The UV-5R doesn't have a USB audio device so you can't get audio from the radio to a PC USB port. The programming cable can't do USB audio.
Here is the connector diagram.

Ok, thanks. What if I ran the cable through the Boafeng hand mic which has a normal audio jack out put?

what system are you planning on broadcasting ?
I'm planning on broadcasting my local fire departments and public works channels. I will use Broadcastify and Scannercast.

Almost all frequencys are in the 127 megahertz Public Service range. Everything is analog, but some channels have tones.

Can you link to the database entry?

I know I can pick the frequencys up, just didn't know what kind of equipment I needed to push the audio from the radio to the PC, but thanks.

As noted many posts back, you need a standard audio cable ( 3.5mm) and a 3.5 female by 2.5 male adapter. That is all you need to connect the radio to the PC.

I am starting a Broadcastify feed with a UV-5R and Scannercast software, and I'm wondering if there is any way to have alpha Tags (when someone talks it gives a fleet or badge number).
