Has anyone had any success hearing anything out of Vinton other than North Benton Ambulance? RR has PD, FD and EMS frequencies listed but I have never once heard anything. Wondering if they are on a trunked system and just not listed.

Everything PD & County is encrypted. Believe they are still using VHF P25.

In the Linn/Benton County Area is there any usage of DMR or ProVoice? I see Alliant Energy is DMR but wondering if it is even worth upgrading my BCD996P2 for DMR or ProVoice. I hear mixed reviews on the usage of those systems.

No ProVoice other than the occasional amateur radio running ProVoice on simplex.

A lot of utilities, public works, and business utilize DMR in both counties. I'm now aware of any DMR usage for any police/fire/ems.

There are some ham radio repeaters utilizing DMR as well.

Thank you very much Tim. Sounds like it would be beneficial to get the DMR key for my radio.

Also seeing a lot that may be NXDN when I am searching. It would be nice to know if anyone around me has these programmed and are actually receiving transmissions via DMR or NXDN before purchasing the Key to unlock them on my device. How I understand it is they may have the license to use them but not all do.

Yes I have but since RR has blocked part of the searching features such as frequency searches, I don't put anything here any longer, I just use fcc search at fjallfoss.fcc.gov, as far as new signals they have some new signals on the air here and now.
Its not on this database either. Good luck. I use RR database in my TRX-1 but have manually added things on my own that are not showing here. I have some SDR with waterfall that immediatly detect anything new. USually I just listen to linn county, and the fire channels listed here. North benton was just on today.

The grain trucks running between adm and suppliers seem to be using nxdn simplex along 380 its in the clear. The major towing company for Linn county also has it but not the best coverage as the repeaters are in Cedar Rapids.

Great feedback thank you. How about Public Works and DMR in this area? I miss the days of all conventional.

I see Benton County today added sites for the SARA Network. Anyone know of the plans in the county to use SARA? This will potentially force me to purchase an SDS200

Just found this posted back in 2021. Must be finally moving forward.

I'm pleased and honored to announce a new contract signing this morning with Benton County, Iowa! RACOM will be deploying a new five site P25 Phase 2 trunked simulcast land mobile radio system to be used by first responders in Benton County. The five sites will provide exceptional in-building portable radio coverage throughout the county, helping our public safety heroes do their jobs more productively and safely. The contract also calls for new 911 dispatch consoles and nearly 500 new portable and mobile radios, ensuring reliability and interoperability for years to come. Their new system will be connected into the Shared Area Radio Agreement (SARA) P25 radio network in Iowa which provides interoperability to all of their local, state and federal mutual aid partners. Thanks to all of the thought leaders in Benton County for your confidence in us. We're anxious to get started!

I've actually been hearing quite a bit of chatter from on 158.835 which I have found is licensed to Urbana Public Works. I am hesitant however to turn it in to be added because I haven't yet heard anything that confirms it. Has anyone else heard that same?

Benton County has been testing their SARA system the last two days (actually pretty funny transmissions) They are looking to go live in July on the SARA network.

I just ran across this playing around with DSDPlus!!!! I was wondering why no action on it. I'll have to setup a record to check it out.

RR lists it as a SARA network. I'm getting a nice signal, so I hope they simulcast Linn county stuff as it really irks me that it takes 4 dongles to cover the Linn simulcasts in SDRTrunk..... :(

I just remembered that I set DSDPlus up on that and let it run all day, so I have the recordings!

A bit garbled for me right now, but yes, some pretty funny transmissions!!

Took me a few transmissions to figure out what it was. I don't have an SDS but I'm so close to a tower I can hear it clear at times. Sounded like transmissions in code "the desk on the floor is wobbly" "the dust on the shelf is gone"

"The road grader is powered by a deer"
"The park ranger ate the buffalo"
"The big dog is heavy unless it's wet and muddy"

Interesting... I didn't look at my recording thoroughly earlier. The morning transmissions are nice and clear. Around 1:20pm, the transmissions are showing up as TDMA and are a bit garbled.

Sounds like they are testing from ALL sorts of locations around the county.
