Been using my Whistler WS1040 successfully for the morning. Reception seems WAY worse than before the change, though. Having to raise it high in my second-story room, north of Crabtree in Raleigh. Will be testing in the car and roaming soon.

Took my WS1040 on the road at lunch. Hardly heard anything. Back at house, with the rubber-duck antenna and probably... 20 feet elevation, total, north of Crabtree, it's working fine. (I'm monitoring fire/EMS tac, ops, dispatch channels.)

Reprogrammed my mobile mounted Whistler 1065 (with rubber duck antenna behind dash) So far strong signals for fire/EMS in Milbrook /Glenwood /Crabtree /Duraleigh area. Cloned from my WS1040 heldheld, which wasn’t picking anything up while rolling at lunch, riding downtown and back. How odd. Used ARC500 for programming.

From Raleigh Wake Scanner over on my FB fire page, here's a helpful answer/explanation to what my older radios are experiencing:

Simulcast distortion
It will take a Uniden SDS series, Unication, or a Motorola , to completely overcome it.

Is anyone else noticing improved reception today? Been listening on one of my scanners and it's sounding better than yesterday.

Pro-106 using Win500 to program. Location is just a couple of miles north of Legeros/RFD 16.

I'd describe the audio as 'choppy'. I certainly hear the digital 'chirps'. But it kind of emulates a poorly connected speaker or a bad mic cable.

It's kinda' like a more clear version of what I hear on the 'archive' sites.

For a regular JAFO guy like me; it may be acceptable.

Thanks to everyone for the tech support.

This indirectly, makes me curious. I use Proscan. The system I setup for the Cary/WakeP25. Shows more activity during the daytime, than it does at night. Is that just an anomaly or, because the switch to P25 isn't complete?

First of all I would like to thank everyone that has put all of the time and effort it takes to make me, the average person, up to date with all the changes that are happing in Wake County. I literally just got back into scanning in September of this year and this forum has made it so much more easier for me to ease back into this hobby then I thought it would. I do have a question- Is it my Radio Shack Pro96 - or me programing it (ARC96) after all the changes-that might have caused my scanner to go almost completly silent. If it's the scanners limitation( I know what I need to do) If it's me programing it- then I will just keep working at it until I get it right. I updated it on 10/27/21.Thanks in advance to anyone who replies.

The past couple of days, I'm unable to monitor anything from Wake Co. - PD, Fire, Sheriff. Complete silence. However, I have no problem with VIPER Statewide, which is the only other digital system I have programmed.

Have you reprogrammed your scanner with the new Wake County P25 system. or is it the old system that is silent? They switched this past week.

Lots of people have been reporting increased simulcast issues causing reception problems since the switch, I was having issues but it seemed to clear up for me. My suggestion is take it with you and go for a drive around the neighborhood and see if some areas are better than others, if it continues to have issues every where it might be programming.

@N1GAW Thanks! So basically I started over completly clearing every bank. I programmed my scanner-bank 0 - the old wake county/motorola Police only- Bank 1 the Cary/Wake P25/ Project 25 Police only. Bank 0 is dead -- Bank 1 is alive. The audio is choppy sometimes other times crystal clear. My guess is I did something wrong earlier in the week while programming it. Thanks agian for all you do and everyone that helps out along the way!

On my RadioShack scanners I have had major simulcast distortion. It is what it is because well they now use a simulcast P25 system. However, my Motorola and Unication devices decode the system perfectly. I will say that coverage is a little less on the west side of Raleigh than the old 3600 system. You just need a device to handle simulcast distortion such as a Unication. Motorola. or a SDS scanner.

Your Pro96 is in the same boat as my Pro-1096, the mobile version. Simulcast Distortion has caused it to go silent. My newer Whistler radios are at least working, but not 100%. For the full monty, we'll have to use Uniden SDS100, or Unication G series radios, or...
