• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

While I am waiting to get my main PC back to running, I am playing with my Moto portable. I have programed an analog zone for GMRS (2 zones) I 'THINK' I have it right, but this radio is hurting for snsitivity. I am still trying to wrap my head around the DMR thing, I want to monitor some ham networked systems and a couple of local DMR sites. My codeplug is a mess, if there are any guides to help me reach this goal.

I have 6550s in both UHF and VHF. While I don't actually think they're "hurting" for sensitivity they don't seem to be quite as sensitive as some of the ham stuff I have in real use.

On a service monitor they do pretty well but in day to day usage seems a bit lacking. Some of that is the squelch In the 6550s. Program a button for what they call "Permanent Monitor" for those times open squelch might help. Unfortunately you have to re-engage it every time you transmit but it has helped out when the squelch just wouldn't break. Also make sure you have it on normal squelch and not tight squelch.

Not sure what the issue is on DMR. What aren't you able to wrap your head around? Have you don't other DMR radios and just having problems with the 6550 or is it DMR in general?

OK, I have two buttons programmed for squelch, side button 2, short press = monitor, long press = Perm monitor.
Top button, short press = monitor. Issue after programming, neither button does anything, not even a boop.
I believe this is normal squelch, don't recall a seeing a setting for tight in CPS 16.
The digital stuff, this is the only radio I have with ham coverage, but have a couple test frequencies.
DMR in general for the 6550. I tried getting this to talk to radio B. B hears the 6550 but won't hear the B radio.
Only one ham DMR repeater here, has to be called up with a certain RID I think I have. It links to regional system in Salt Lake City, but I dont get anything. Although I have done a lot of reading, YouTubes etc. , I surly don't have something cofigured right.
I have tuner, just have'nt used it, I probably should.

Well (face palm) I found the squelch setting in the radio menu, set to normal. Been a long time since using tuner but tweaked front end filters, gain, Seems better sensitivity but scanning wont find an active TX.

To me (and it may be just my imagination) a non-gps antenna receives better than a GPS antenna on my 6550.
Absolutely. I never use a UHF/GPS antenna. UHF only, unless there’s none available. And while my 6550 receives just fine, the 7550 blows it away.
