Trying to pick up a 900 mhz, type 2 smart net system. Weak signal, thinking a Yagi might be the solution. Can the 900 mhz cell phone Yagis be used for this, or should I be looking for another solution??

More elements the better at 900 MHz. Cell phones are anywhere but 900 MHz, did you mean 800 MHz?

if you have it, it can't hurt to try it.
every piece of metal receives signals, the size depends on how well.

RRDB has it as a Smart net 2 900 mhz system. Im a noob at these antennas, thats where Im a little confused. Guess I would love to find a all band Yagi, but im sure it doesnt work that way...

What antenna do you use now that gives a weak signal?

Yagi will be directional so you could lose reception in other directions from other systems and especially if those are not in the frequency band that the yagi covers. Then filters are needed to split a signal up in a lower band and a higher to at least allow a second antenna to be used for the lower frequency bands.

We will need scanner model and antenna used and what systems you monitor and their current signal strengths and your location to be able to tell in what directions your systems are.

Thanks for the replies. Think Im going to try Dave 3825 suggestion, This will be on a single scanner, for just that site. Tried to build my own, but I found out I really suck at building antennas...
