I just noticed that as well on the handheld 2500 and 3000XLT's they have the old VHF high band 5 khz spacing as well in the step setup, so Uniden paid close attention to the FCC changes occurring in the 1990's. Sorry about that. Still, for analog I love the 895XLT due to the VFO knob and the MIL air band among other features like CTCSS decode.

Other than the VFO knob, it appears the BCT15 does all the same and was what eventually ended up replacing the 895XLT through the progression.

So, the NIB Uniden Bearcat BCT15X arrived. While it didn't have the screen protector still on it and appeared to have a little programming for TX in it, it did come with everything that is listed on the box, most still sealed in bags and with ties on the cables, so it seems NIB enough. I went ahead and did a factory reset by following this:reset.PNG
I did this a couple of times and it seemed to clear everything out of it. The only thing I noticed when doing this is the part "Then, the scanner displays "Restore Preprogram List? / Yes="E"/ No="."" does not come up on the BCT15X.

I then tried a weather channel and a FM broadcast station and both were received.

Next, I took some time to wrap my head around the programming structure (Systems, Groups, Channels) and found a YouTube video that broke it down fairly well. I used a spreadsheet to outline my programming structure. Then I found a YouTube video that showed how to do the actual programming via the front panel (I like to know how to manually program my scanners). Following that video, I have 5 Systems programmed, 1 with multiple Groups, and all with multiple Channels.

Last night I looked up FreeSCAN and got it downloaded and installed on my Windows 10 PC. I have watched a couple YouTube videos on it and it looks pretty straightforward to use. I like the ability to place items on the clipboard via a Copy and import the information into the program. This will be the next thing I tackle in the next few days.

That is one amazing analog scanner. Had tons of fun with it last night chasing dx and hearing emt callouts as far away as Harlan, KY and Wheeling, WV. If you are looking for a good analog search machine, look no further than a Uniden BCT15X. Analog bad mammer jammer scanner. I use this and a wideband Diamond J130 discone as my major searching tool. I am starting to use SDR# as well, but have to get to know it a little better to be proficient. I have fun with it tho ;)

You may already know this, but there is a user guide for FreeSCAN in the Wiki.

One thing I have noticed on my BCT15X is the AC adapter plug at the radio side is not a "tight" fit. There is a smidge of play in it. By no means is it going to come out on its own but it does move back a hair if the radio is moved/handled. Anyone else notice this?

I just got my BCT15X a few weeks ago, and it is the same. Like you said, it won' come out by itself, but it is looser than my BCD996P2 and BCD536HP scanners power jacks.

The display fonts on the BCT15X are much better than the BC780-XLT. The 15X fonts are more solid looking with much better contrast. The fonts on the 780 look more like a vintage dot matrix, harder to read.
