Yes...a beta release for NXDN (Fusion and D-STAR also!), like they did with DMR, would be acceptable. I really hope they release something soon.

I heard my county fire dispatch say a channel name I didn't have, so I used the Discovery feature to search the UHF band looking for the unknown channel. In a short amount of time I had a huge list of new stuff. Among those hits, about a half-dozen (so far) were NXDN. Initially, the NXDN appeared as a hangup with no audio. It was only when I turned the squelch to 1 or 0 that it unmuted the NXDN data.

Discovery Mode is pretty neat, but the timeout feature didn't work on these hangups. And "Compare to Database" almost worked (or worked on Conventional), but failed to work on DMR Capacity Plus or Connect Plus systems...and recorded DMR hits on "known" DMR systems. Otherwise, it vacuumed up a lot of stuff. There could be some improvement there. The good thing was its ability to recheck frequencies it already knew for new access code (PL, DPL, CC, NAC) activity, and list them as new records. Discovery Mode has potential, although reviewing the huge "Summary" of hits can take a while to sort through.

I'm with you Phil....a beta release of NXDN with limited features sooner would be much preferred to one that takes an age before we might even know if NXDN is in the mix.

I think UpMan set some expectations for something new that we'd go ape over coming in the future....for the past year, I can only say I've found the lack of NXDN support on the BCDx36P to be very frustrating.

Pasted from UPMan's info page:
"When is Uniden going to (fill in the blank)? Why hasn't Uniden made a scanner that (fill in the blank)? and so on
This is one of the most-asked questions that is almost never answered, so I'll answer it here.
...Release a new scanner

...Release an update for my scanner

...Add a capability to my scanner

When we are ready to announce a new scanner, update, capability, etc., we'll announce it to everyone, and it won't be due to someone asking either in a forum or a private message. it will be because we are ready to announce a new scanner, update, capability, etc. We don't announce right now, right this minute for a few reasons:

We aren't ready to announce it, yet.
We don't want to give our competition a heads-up that we have a new model (update, capability, etc) with particular features coming out...the longer we wait, the longer we maintain our competitive advantage with new features.
In the development process, as features are tested and refined, sometimes features are added, and sometimes features are dropped. Early announcements create a risk of "false claims" criticisms once the product is released.
There are some legal restrictions on promoting products that do not yet have certain approvals. Waiting until those approvals have been granted (or are just a day or two away) reduces greatly the complexity involved in making any such announcement."

Yet people still ask and trolls will be trolls.

What arrogance. I mean, ok, say what you mean, but seriously, thats talking to potential and existing customers like they are children, and are beneath you.

Anyway, I have several Uniden scanners. And if they were to release NXDN tomorrow for them, it wouldn't be anything for me to get excited about, since I've been monitoring NXDN on my whistler over half a year now.

I hope they have something else up their sleeve, if they are going to impress, not just catching up with the competition a year later.

Funny, doesn't sound in the least bit arrogant to me.

I agree. He's an employee of Uniden, bound by rules and policies that govern his conduct as an employee. He doesn't withhold information to feel superior to the mental midgets that accuse him of being a jerk - he does it because he enjoys being employed and keeping a roof over his head. I just don't get the sense of entitlement a lot of people around here seem to have... just because you bought a few scanners over the years doesn't make you a board member who's privy to company secrets.

Upman just changed his avatar, so the time travel and teleportation firmware updates for the SDS100 were made available last month.
