• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

You probably set up the template wrong. When you hit Add a template you get a box for template name and another labeled Band with a drop-down of 17 combinations of bands and frequencies. You want the last: 7/800 VHF UHF.

My VP8000 bottoms out at 450MHz. Any ideas why? VHF works great, wideband, etc, all golden. It's got all features unlocked. Perhaps it's just a T-Band model?

When you create the system, you choose the band(s). The spaces in the names make that confusing. "UHF" is 380-520, "UHF 380" is 380-477.425, and "UHF High" is 450-520. You chose "7/800 VHF UHF High" when you probably want "7/800 VHF UHF".

WTF is 477.425? :)

If you don’t want to start over you can duplicate the template you have and a menu will pop up to select Band for duplicate. Select correct band for duplicate and you should be good to go.

So I just put in an order for a VP8000, and re-reading post 8 is causing me confusion.
Another thing to mention regarding wideband is that Armada allows wideband receive on any frequency as long as the non-exempt transmit frequency is disabled.

420-450MHz
I guess, what does the Wideband Disable prevent? Does it allow wideband on 420-450 (ham)? Or does the above comment indicate two separate facts?

Wideband disabled means that you can't set most frequencies to wideband. Wideband is allowed wherever it is legal... ham, marine, and a few others.

...on the VP8000. On 5000/6000/7000 series, it doesn't allow WB on UHF below 470 I think. The 8000 is smarter.

Correct. To my understanding the 5/6/7K are all built off the NX-5K. This is why they look and act similar. The 8k was completely redesigned.

Great, that's what I thought, but wanted to double check.

I'm also reading the manual, and I may have found an issue with radio wide scan. Per the manual:

I should be able to put 255 channels in the RWS list, but under Global ->Lists->Radio Wide Scan, it only allows 64 channels. Misprint, or an issue with 1.42.12? I should have my subscription soon and have the current Armada.

I have latest cps/firmware and a 4096 channel radio and I see same 64 limit you do. I wonder what the scan rate is in channels per second? Would analog channels decode faster than digital? When I scan lots of channels on a scanner I miss lots of traffic partially and completely. Trunking scan on 1 system is quick because radio stays on control channel just looking for digital signature. Multi system and multi channel much bigger issue.
