I have no idea but it would likely be months and not weeks or years. So I would guess very likely by the end of the year but not likely by May.

I just got a used uniden 986xt last week. How much longer will it be before it's obsolete with regards to CSP?

If I were you I would get a newer one for use on the digital frequencies and remit your 986xt to certain types it can still pick up.

I'd love to get a newer scanner, but funds are limited. Lucky I got the 996xt. Someone, local, was selling 2 of them for $65/ea.

Just my report from receiving Tolland site NAC 3A4. On my new SDS200. I'm in Stafford, signal strength is equal between 800MHz and 700MHz at -85. Also same on 4 SDR receivers and BCD996P2. Discone antenna 30 foot up on 60 foot tower and base of tower at 400 ft asl. In the middle of the forest with 130 ft trees.
Listening on 800MHz system and 700MHz at the same time but sorry to report no reception on 700MHz.
Put SDR on with DSD+ and listened on 700MHz assigned voice channel and saw (Part time) Muting encrypted voice. Sometimes in the clear.
I've been receiving 800MHz OK for many years with no problems with 996P2 and my trustworthy Radio Shack Pro-106 (What great audio on the RS). The SDS200 has pretty good audio.
We all miss the Analog Lo Band System. (Hint) I was Supervisor Hartford Radio Lab 1986 - 1990, a few years in there.
Also worked in Engineering on the current 800MHz System.
Monitoring Away............... Mike

What talk groups were showing as encrypted?

Hello mkt853
At the time I was listening to Troop C with 800 Mhz receiving on RS 106 and the computer was monitoring Troop C on a 700MHz channel with a SDR (SDR Play) as I use with DSD+ (Software digital decoder). Talk group 101 (Troop C Dispatch) On Friday there was allot of encryption all day, could of been techs chatting. The ProScan software would record a hit and you would hear a burst of data and it would go silent (on Uniden RX)
At the same time voice freq 769.906.250 (most of the time voice channel assigned) so I monitored it on the SDR with DSD+ and there is a screen shot that records the voive packets. I could match up the the 2 for what I could. Things (Voice chat) short and fast and many hours of monitoring. Plenty of encrypted chatter shown but nothing on 800MHz radio, silent when encryption was shown on SDR/DSD.
Hard to type this out . Screen shot of DSD+.NOT GOOD.PNG

I have not been able to get "in the clear" transmissions on 700MHz system on either 996p2 or SDS200 receivers.
Database downloaded from Radioreference and allot of playing around with the 996P2 for a week.
Doesn't seem to care if a "Band Plan" is entered.
Sometimes a few sentences were heard then it would cut out on 996P2 / 700MHz.
SDS200 3 days old so still learning it and Sentinel Software.
Analyze feature on SDS200 showed 100% signal and decode quality receiving the control channel, with chatter all 3 bars were 100%..

P25 band plans are sent in the data stream. They are decoded by the scanners the same way that the regular radios do.

There has been a lot of training at the Academy as they get closer to graduation day for the newest training troop. I have seen encrypted traffic on those talkgroups. I have also been hearing 101 (Troop C Disp 1) in the clear on the Troop C site of CLMRN.

I am missing some of the CSP transmissions on the CSERN system on my 536. I suspect that my band plan downloaded via RR may not be correct.

Here it is: 851.0625 6.25
762.00625 6.25
851.0625 12.500
762.00625 12.500
Any correction would be appreciated.

the band plan is not need for scanner programming as they use the standard P25 700/800 band plan. Channel/frequency info is transmitted with the data stream.
That is
Bandplan #0 - 851.00625 6.25
Bandplan #1 - 762.00625 6.25
Bandplan #2 - 851.0125 12.5 Slots 2
Bandplan #3 - 762.00625 12.5 Slots 2

There is technically no such thing as a standard P25 band plan. While many Motorola ASTRO 25 700/800 systems do happen to use the same first four band plan entries, there are exceptions. Harris and other manufacturers may use a different band plan entirely, so never assume.

The band plan itself is broadcast continuously over the control channel, which the scanner will decode and use. No need to program it manually.
