And shame on all of you for making bogus claims of their practice being illegal. UPMan pretty clearly said that Uniden did not "force" them to change their price (despite the seller's characterization) but reminded them of the MAP policy and gave them the opportunity to decide how to handle their business in light of that policy.

How about shame on you petrol88 for jumping to conclusions. I did not make any claims, bogus or otherwise. I simply asked the question, the posted the law as written.

Here is some more information on the subject. It's not black & white.

I actually read that earlier today, and found the part about MAP agreements not dictating the actual sales price very interesting. Meaning that the eBay seller probably only had to list it at the MAP but could legitimately accept the coupon or even Best Offer.

I took a couple screen shots of it and sent ebay a message about the seller raising the price during the coupon. Have not heard back from them yet.

The right thing to do would have been to take the listing down instead of profiting a extra hundred bucks.

Know I wont be buying anything from webtron-x

Did you read the full thread? No one, "profiting a extra hundred bucks" SMH

If anyone purchased the scanner while listed at $749.99 and used the coupon, then yes, the seller would've made $100 additional profit on each scanner sold.

Please understand I'm not picking on Uniden. I just bought three of their x36 scanners in the last month or so. I borderline being a Uniden fanboy to be honest.

Just about everyone in business today is doing this. Look at washer and dryers, TV's, computers, printers, etc.

I worked for General Electric for many years. They got caught up in the antitrust issue. The government threatened to break them up in little pieces and sell them off if they ever did it again!

Here is my question. Maybe this has been answered, but i've read thru probably every post about the sds100. Can we just combine it all to one sticky ?. If people then start to post on seperate thread's, can it all just be merged ?. I am doing my best to keep up. LOL.

The price was changed back to 649.99 and tried to use the coupon code and of course it would not work. Pretty much knew it would not.

Figures

Because he changed the price back as soon as the coupon expired.

Silimy all the way around. And the seller who did nothing, gets screwed out of a bunch of sales. Oh and those of you wildly and inaccurately calling him "greedy" should check the eBay agreement - he doesn't get an "extra" $100

I don't think there was any malicious intent on anyone's part, Uniden, Ebay, or webtron-x (a top rated seller). Just one big quagmire in the complicated world we live in these days. Just reading the laws today for myself, it's clear as mud! Life and business shouldn't be so complicated.

On positive side, I'm totally impressed with all the great feedback coming in from actual users in real life un-controled testing. Great job Paul & team at Uniden! I wish every company worked so hard at listening to their customers and working so hard to meet their needs and demands!

"you will not be aware that a coupon was used to fund the payment".

Right. It's converted to cash.

"Sellers simply need to accept PayPal as a payment method. Coupons are automatically converted to regular currency at the time of redemption, so sellers will not be aware that a coupon has been used to fund the payment."

Meaning sellers get the full sales amount.

How do you think it works? eBay forces sellers to take a hit?

WRONG

The seller gets the FULL amount the item is listed at.

The marketing strategy behind the coupon is to get a buzz going on the eBay platform, consumers get 20% off, they love eBay and come back and spend more.

In this case eBay has still has stumped up the $100 per unit sold and its ended up in the sellers pocket because bully boy Uniden FORCED him to up the price.

Rather than having the effect eBay were paying for, its done the opposite, its made buying on eBay look expensive, its made Webtron-X look greedy and untrustworthy and as for Uniden, its made them look a complete joke!

Uniden decided that a handfull of scanners being discounted at eBays expense would damage its brand, someone needs to wake up!

What damaged your brand was the fiasco (still ongoing) of the last 2 *flagship* scanners and now this price fixing fiasco.

eBay covers the $100. He raised the price to $100 higher than MAP (though I suppose he can go above minimum adv price if he wants and we can go elsewhere).

The problem I had was that Uniden forced him to do it when it was improper for them to do so. But it only makes them look bad, period.

Lots of confusion over it - and maybe Paul was ignorant to how it worked and has learned his lesson - but it was improper and harmful toward the seller as he likely would have sold several more.

Even though it's too late now, one thing that would make me feel a little better is if Paul would come along and admit he was wrong in forcing the seller to increase his price above MAP (seller was 100% compliant) during that ordeal. I'm not saying it would make me forgive and forget but it would make me feel better that they recognize they were wrong instead of the false info and lies about dealer agreements and MAP since the seller was 100% compliant when it was listed at $649.99 (MAP) regardless of a coupon existing.

If he is compliant with his listing right now, he was compliant when the coupon was valid. Period. End of story.

How 'bout it, Paul? Be a stand up guy?

After the "siren", "clock", "display" fiascos, you would think Uniden would have said: HURRAY, BUY MANY SCANNERS
But no, more important to force the customers to fork over that extra $100, even though it comes out of Ebays pockets and not Unidens or the dealers.
Done with Uniden, maybe I will buy a used one in a few years, but not giving Uniden any money.
