That's what my son said, early October.....he got pagers to firehall to charge up for use and said many of the batteries were no good because they have sat boxed up for couple years, Atleast the Portables radios are brand new!

Had to laugh at 12 reporter tonight she said the public wont hear police or medics any more because of encryption.

What I heard on 505 sounded more like data than encryption. Ch 35 said 10/7 is the date for fire & EMS.

I’m getting asked by fireman and others what good inexpensive scanner they could buy to receive the new p25 phase 2 system. And I have been telling them they all are pricey. But wonder what anyone else is going to use , I have the uniden 536 , the 996 is cheaper and probably Best Buy . What’s your opinions on a radio for the public to buy?

The 996P2 would be the cheapest, but without the system in operation yet it's hard to say how well it would work. I have the 436 and 536, but I don't really know how well they will work yet either. Up from there are the SDS100/200, but very expensive and still having a lot of problems. Unication pagers can also be set up to act like scanners I understand.

I just want to hear the fire and EMS taped out. I have on old Motorola minitor 4 on 33.98 to hear the tones for Albion and Cranesville. What is the cheapest way to still do this? Thanks in advance.

I’m saving up for the 436. Keeping my eyes out to see how it works on the system (I’m a ways out from hitting my financial mark).

PCJ - any conventional scanner *should* pick up the dispatches. It will be on a simulcast conventional UHF system. One freq for Millcreek and one for County.

Lots of used digital scanners on eBay. The 996P2 goes for $300-$400. The 436 goes for $200-$300.

I’ve heard the same. 453.950 for county paging. You won’t hear EFD/ECI on conventional anymore as their dispatches will be on P25.

Should we assume Emergycare is also switching on 10/7, along with the other EMS and Fire? Anyone know for sure?

I believe they will be switching that date as well. They used to use Med 10 for ambulance operations and 155.22 for wheelchairs. Ambulance dispatch and operations will move to P25 along with med patches. Wheelchairs are staying where they are for now.

They do show on the TG chart as having 2 TG's for ECI. Each hospital has one TG too.
